What is it? SMART Board is an interactive whiteboard. It was developed by SMART Technologies. When introduced in 1991, it was the first interactive whiteboard to provide a touch sensitive screen that runs off a local computer system.
3
How do you set it up? It is mounted on the wall or held up by a stand. Plug the USB cord provided with the SMART Board into your computer. Download SMART software onto laptops. Projector connected to the computer displays the computers desktop image on the board
4
How does it work? Input data by the use of plastic pens with no ink, user’s hands, or a pointing device. The tray senses that a pen’s absence and then it relays a message to the host computer to start picking up input signals which then show up on the board. Touch of a hand is also used to move an object or select an object just as a mouse and keyboard do.
5
What applications are offered? SMART Notebook toolNotebook tool Active this by the teacher’s computer. Looks similar to a PowerPoint setup screen used as a storage place for information teachers can pull up from other media sources. Images, animations, templates, and manipulatives to build lessons
