2 What is Democracy? Democracy allows ordinary British citizens to vote for who they want as their Prime Minister. The British parliament is based on Democracy and a vote happens every 5 years. The Houses of Parliament is located in London(the capital of England).The most famous part of The Houses of Parliament is Big Ben.

3 What is happening on May 7 th 2015? On May 7 th 2015, an important day will occur for ALL of England. It is the day of the General Election. The General Election is when British citizens get to vote for who the want as there Prime Minister. This year there are lots of parties you can choose. British citizens vote for who they want to run the country. Who can vote and how do they vote? To be able to vote you must be 18+ and you need to be register on the electoral roll.

4 Why should they vote? You should vote so your voice could be heard and you opinions can count. What is Representative Democracy ? Representative democracy is the common type of democracy. It is when British citizens choose who they want to be represented by. They vote via an election.

5 Who are the main leaders in the General Election 2015? David Cameron is the leader of The Conservative party and is the currant Prime Minister. Ed Miliband is the leader of The Labour party. Nick Clegg is the leader of The Liberal Democrats.

6 The Magna Carta What is it ? The Magna Carta, the great charter was agreed between King John and his barons at Runnymede in 1215 is one of the most famous documents in history. It allows ordinary people to vote. When and why was it introduced? The Magna Carta was introduced in 1215 when King John signed it during the Medieval period. What is it ? 7 The Suffragettes In the nineteenth century women had no place in national politics. They could not stand as candidates for Parliament. They were not even allowed to vote. But when the suffragettes came it all changed. The suffragettes protested for women's rights so they could vote. Finally, later on the suffragettes won the protest so the women could vote. Emily pankhurst was the leader.

8 What has the election got to do with the parliament? The UK Parliament is elected at the UK general election. The election chooses who should be in parliament and tells you who is going to be the new Prime Minister.

9 Our own political party. Burton Democrats is the name of our party. We have come up with 3 polices that we are mainly going to focus on. They are :. Over 60’s get a free public transport ride so they can get out more often.. Hospital extension so more people can be treated an soon as possible..To build more parks throughout the country so people can play and have fun outdoors. Burton Democrats is the name of our party. 10 How are we going to raise money for these policies? We are going to raise 20p extra per pound and add 20p on every luxurious items. It will be for your own good.
