The Sun is the center of the solar system. The moon orbits the Earth. The Earth turns on its axis. The Earth revolves around the sun. There are stars in the sky. Stars are related to movements. There is more to the universe than the planet Earth. What we learned last week What we will learn

From the view of Earth we see the sun and moon. We are going to explore the movement of the Earth and moon. Let’s start with a riddle:At night they come without being fetched. By day they are lost without being stolen. What are they? Answer: The stars The Earth, Moon, and Sun

Axis- The imaginary line that the Earth turns on. Revolve- to move in a circular or curving course around another object Rotate- to turn around as if on its axis Orbit- the curved path around something Planet- heavenly body revolving around the sun. Vocabulary

Elliptical- symmetric curve shaped like an oval Satellite- a natural body that revolves around a planet Vocabulary

This is the most famous star. It is 109 times bigger than the Earth. The sun keeps the Earth warm. The Sun

The sun is very warm and bright. This is an activity where you go outside on the weekend, Saturday or Sunday. I want you to record the temperature of the day with your parents’ help at the times you eat. If the you want, you can draw a picture of the sun at that time of day you record. Activity 1: The Sun during the day

This is our Home planet. It moves on its axis. The Earth revolves around the Sun. The Earth

This activity will be a whole class activity. We will place a sun-dial outside on the playground. Every hour we will take time to go outside and record what we see on the sun-dial. Activity 2: One Earth Day This is a sun-dial.

Click the picture to go to a website to see how the Earth and moon move during a certain period of time. Activity 3: The earth traveling around the sun

The moon is cold. It is full of craters, which are big holes in its surface. The moon orbits the Earth. The moon does not have light. The moon reflects the light of the sun. The Moon

Phases of the moon

Search online in class for four upcoming phases of the moon. When you find the four upcoming phases of the moon put them in order with the dates the phases of the moon are. Activity 4: Internet Search

This is a video about the movement of the Earth, the moon, and the sun. Click the big picture below. Video of the Earth, the Moon, and the Sun

Let’s make an alien that we will later explain the movements of the Earth or the moon to. Click the alien above to make an alien. Fun with Aliens

This activity will be explained more later. We will write about the movement of the Earth and/or moon to explain to our alien friend made from the previous slide. WebQuest
