3 History  Began in 1824 as the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals  Founders: Reverend Arthur Broome William Wilberforce Richard Martin

4 Making it Official  1840- Queen Victoria allowed the society to add the “Royal” prefix  The current name is the same as it was in 1840

5 Prosecutors  Martins Act of 1822  Supposed to punish abusers of animals like: Horses Cattle Sheep

6 Encompassing Other Species  Plumage Act of 1919 Restricted the use of bird plumage for fashion Extended to certain species like Egrets

7 Aid During War  Sent veterinary supplies during WWI Used to help the horses on the frontlines

8 Animal Welfare Act of 2006  Replaced the Protection of Animals Act of 1911 Has preventative measures where the animal can be removed before abused Restricts dog tail docking

9 Headquarters  Horsham, West Sussex South of London  Has 169 branches all over England and Wales

10 Current Leadership  Has an elected council  Has several appointed vice- presidents  The royal patron is the Queen

16 Current Budget  In 2008, the RSPCA reported an income of 119,926,000 GBP and operated on about 114,090,000 GBP.
