8 Best practice - from the perspective of NoBo
Thermal cutting The capability of thermal cutting processes shall be periodically checked - EN (EN ISO 9013) Quality of the cut surfaces perpendicularity or angularity tolerance (u) mean height of the profile (Rz5) Hardness of surfaces (HV 10)

11 Best practice - from the perspective of NoBo
Questions Answers Who has to have these tests executed? The owner/user of the thermal cutting equipment. These results will be valid for that particular cutting machine. What shall happen with a new or another cutting equipment? Tests must be done for this cutting equipment, too.

12 Best practice - from the perspective of NoBo
Subcontractor Nyír-Dinamika Ltd. (thermal cutting) specifications thermal cutting test report drawings contract (which equipment) plates with certificates cutting list (each project) systematically super- cut parts vise the process Manufacturer Nyír-Mezőgép Ltd.

15 Best practice - from the perspective of NoBo
Tack welds „The minimum length of the tack shall be the lesser of four times the thickness of the thicker part or 50 mm, unless a shorter length can be demonstrated as satisfactory by test.” – EN , 7.5.7

18 Best practice - from the perspective of NoBo
Question Answer How can be demonstrated the conformity of the 10 mm long tack welds? With tack weld test. Visual testing / EN ISO 17637 Macro examination Penetrant test / EN 571-1 or Magnetic particle inspection / EN 17638

19 Best practice - from the perspective of NoBo
Tack weld Fillet weld

20 Best practice - from the perspective of NoBo
Visual test passed Penetrant test passed Macro examination passed Shorter tack weld length can be demonstrated as satisfactory by test.

21 Best practice - from the perspective of NoBo
1. thermal cutting 2. tack welds 3. painting 4. initial type testing 5. subcontractor of welding

22 Best practice - from the perspective of NoBo
Painting According to EN F6.1, the temperature of the surfaces to be coated should be 3 degrees above the dew point.

23 Best practice - from the perspective of NoBo
Manufacturer Nyír-Dinamika Ltd., Hungary Execution class EXC 1 Product steel structure basis of machines Material S355J2 / EN

25 Best practice - from the perspective of NoBo
Questions Answers Which equipments must be used to measure temperature and humidity? Calibrated thermometers and humidity meters. Which are the most important data of the painting log? Date Air & steel temperature Air humidity Dew point List of products Name of paint Thickness of coating Painter’s name

26 Best practice - from the perspective of NoBo
Subcontractor Nyír-Mezőgép Ltd. (painting) contract specifications declaration (painting acc. to workpieces EN Annex F) systematically super- surface preparation vise the process painting Manufacturer Nyír-Dinamika Ltd.

27 Best practice - from the perspective of NoBo
1. thermal cutting 2. tack welds 3. painting 4. initial type testing 5. subcontractor of welding

28 Best practice - from the perspective of NoBo
Initial type testing „Initial type testing is the complete set of tests or other procedures, determining the performance of samples of products representative of the product type.” – EN , 6.2.1

29 Best practice - from the perspective of NoBo
Question Answer There is no order for any product acc. to EN 1090. How can a manufacturer prove that they are capable to execute the initial type testing? The product for initial type testing can be a simple welded structure. Important! EXC of this simple structure = = EXC to be certified

30 Best practice - from the perspective of NoBo
1. thermal cutting 2. tack welds 3. painting 4. initial type testing 5. subcontractor of welding

31 Best practice - from the perspective of NoBo
Question Answer The subcontractor has got only EN certificate. The manufacturer is responsible for the whole product, the subcontractor is responsible for the welding technology. Is EN enough for manufacturing according to EN ? This is not enough. The subcontractor has to be certified acc. to EN by a Notified Body for the suitable execution class.
