2 WOOSONG UNIVERSITY TESOL-MALL PROGRAM Founded in 2002 33 students have received an MA degree 24 women 9 men (4 Non- Korean) 62 students currently enrolled (10 Non-Korean) Most students have jobs when they enter

3 The Program Aims to Cultivate: World citizens, leaders within the globalization and who will contribute to the development of English education and multimedia- related English education, Multi-skilled experts who combine practical foreign language and information processing skills with tourism and international commercial skills.

4 Graduates Teachers, curriculum specialists, or administrators in ESL/EFL programs Mainly at the secondary, adult, and college levels Most work in Korea; several work abroad. Several graduates have enrolled in Ph.D programs in the US Full-time employment with benefits is the greatest challenge

5 Korea’s EFL Job Market The 7 th curriculum mandates English Language Instruction promote fluency through more communicative approaches Parents send children to private English classes

6 How Woosong Prepares Grads Raising awareness of what type of jobs are available Professional Development as a component of required courses Empowering students with additional skills Networking & training to “re-enter” market Providing students with jobs (50% work at Woosong)

7 Leadership Preparation Grads must demonstrate some ability to do research and present their work Sharing of Skills/Knowledge Teachers helping teachers Curriculum development

8 Remaining Challenges Helping More Grads Find Jobs Overseas Establishing an Alumni Network Encouraging Collaboration After Graduation Fostering Involvement in Professional Organizations
