6 Educator Preparation Institute (EPI) Candidates already hold a four-year degree Candidates are eligible to receive a five-year Florida Professional Educator's Certificate EPI consists of 18 credit hours of instruction and 45 hours of field experience (see brochure for list of classes)

7 EPI (8008) Continued EPI Ombudsperson: Ana Blaine Admission: Bachelor’s Degree, Statement of Eligibility (SOE) from FLDOE, Apply to College, FL Residency, VCS Volunteer Clearance, EPI Application

8 Alternative Certification (9591) Already teaching on a temporary certificate (3 yrs) & have Bachelors; enrolled in the College Please refer them to the FLDOE and their district certification specialists Usually take 4 courses (Ex. Classroom Assessment, Critical Issues in Education) Look for evening and online classes Must have an override by Chair to register

10 Conditional Admissions May be granted to applicants missing ONLY one admission requirement The requirement must be fulfilled by the first day of class No 10% waivers

11 Course Credit Transfer Any upper level (3000 or 4000) education course credit transferred in from another institution must be approved by the Chair of the College of Education Can transfer up to 3 course credits

12 Completion Requirements Academic A grade of “C” or better in all courses Successful completion of all field experiences Maintain a GPA of 2.5 or above

16 Field Experience Requirements Most classes include fifteen hours of field work For example, if student is enrolled in three classes this semester, he/she may be responsible for completing 45 hours of field work Field Work must be a priority in order for success in the program

17 Field Experience Requirements Full-time substitute teachers or full-time paraprofessionals must complete field experience hours at a separate school, in addition to and separate from scheduled work hours Field experience hours cannot be “banked” at the home school during work hours

18 Field Experience Requirements EPI Candidates If he/she is a full- time teacher, then field experience is completed in his/her own classroom

20 Disqualifying Offenses Pre-service teachers who have a disqualifying offense are not eligible to complete the program, to student teach, or to receive a professional teaching certificate.
