3 Power Query Find and connect data across a wide variety of sources
Cleanse and merge data to prepare it for enhanced analysis Talk Track: Excel has always had rich features for importing data from a variety of data sources using the Data tab. However, when working with results from the web or from Hadoop, you often need to pivot, unpivot, and combine different data before you can start analyzing it in Excel. The Power Query provides an intuitive and consistent experience for discovering, combining, and refining data across a wide variety of sources, including relational, structured and semi-structured, OData, web, Hadoop, Azure Marketplace, and more. The Power Query can be used to cleanse and merge data from various sources into a single Excel file that provides enhanced analysis. More importantly, it can easily put the results into a PowerPivot model so that you can take advantage of the compression engine rather than load all the data directly into a spreadsheet. With Big Data, you are talking about working with millions or billions of rows, and this is what PowerPivot was designed to handle. Key Points: Power Query can: Identify data from the multiple sources. Discover relevant data using the search capabilities. Combine data from multiple, disparate data sources References: Power Query:

4 PowerPivot– Embedded Analytics
Server & Tools Business 4/20/2017 PowerPivot– Embedded Analytics Add and integrate large amounts of data in Excel workbooks In-memory data model Access Clean Mash Up Explore Visualize Share Power View Quick Analysis Quick Explore PowerPivot Flash Fill Data Model Talk Track: As I mentioned before, Excel has always supported connectivity to a broad variety of data, ranging from an exhaustive list of relational databases to external web services, xml, data feeds, and so on. The award-winning PowerPivot is one of the best tools on the market for easy data mash-up and advanced data modeling. An extremely popular in-memory technology for data, PowerPivot also can be used for double duty within the Speed Layer of the Lambda architecture. It can easily analyze billions of rows in seconds and works best with the 64-bit version of Excel so that it can access more memory. With Microsoft Excel 2013, Power View is now available as a chart type for your data in Excel, either in spreadsheets or in a PowerPivot model. Power View can also be used for data that you have hooked up to Analysis Services or other OLAP providers that use the MDX interface. Power View makes it easy to create presentation-quality graphics through simple drag-and-drop operations. It includes the ability to view data on top of maps or across time using the Time Dimension Player chart type. Key Points: PowerPivot: Data mash-up and advanced data modeling Power View: Interactive visualizations of mashed-up and modeled data References: Slides for Section 5 - SQL Server 2012 (PowerView and PowerPivot).pptx PowerPivot: Power View: © 2012 Microsoft Corporation.
