3. THE WORK OF JESUS AS OUR HIGH PRIEST What happens at the end of the 2300 day prophecy? Daniel 8:14 the sanctuary shall be And he said to me, “For two thousand three hundred days; then the sanctuary shall be cleansed.” - The sanctuary is cleansed.

4. 1-HP JESUS AS OUR HIGH PRIEST Before we can understand what is meant by the cleansing of the sanctuary at the end of the 2300 days (years), we must know what sanctuary is spoken of in this prophecy. Note: Numbers 14:34 equates prophetic days to years.

5. 2-HP JESUS AS OUR HIGH PRIEST Was there a sanctuary on earth? Hebrews 9:1-5 Then indeed, even the first covenant had ordinances of divine service and the earthly sanctuary.

6. 2-HP JESUS AS OUR HIGH PRIEST 2- For a tabernacle was prepared: the first part, in which was the lampstand, the table, and the showbread; which is called the sanctuary; second veil Holiest of All 3- And behind the second veil, the part of the tabernacle which is called Holiest of All:

Of these things we cannot now speak in detail. - Under the direction of God, Moses erected a tabernacle in the wilderness which is expressly called the sanctuary. Its services continued from the giving of the ceremonial law on Mt. Sinai to the

9. 2-HP JESUS AS OUR HIGH PRIEST crucifixion of Jesus Christ. This tabernacle of Moses was later merged into the beautiful temple at Jerusalem. When Christ died upon the cross, the veil in this temple was rent (Matt. 27:50,51), showing that the service of God in this building had ended. This temple was destroyed in A.D. 70 by the Romans.

10. 3-HP JESUS AS OUR HIGH PRIEST Is there another sanctuary? Hebrews 8:1,2 Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens,

11. 3-HP JESUS AS OUR HIGH PRIEST sanctuary true tabernacle 2- a Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected, and not man. - A heavenly sanctuary has taken the place of the earthly sanctuary built by men. In this sanctuary, in heaven, Christ ministers for us as our great High Priest.

12. 3-HP JESUS AS OUR HIGH PRIEST Since this heavenly sanctuary took the place of the earthly sanctuary at the death of Jesus on the cross, the sanctuary that was to be cleansed in October, 1844 must of necessity be the heavenly sanctuary where Jesus ministers for us now.

13. 4-HP JESUS AS OUR HIGH PRIEST What was the sanctuary of Moses patterned after? Hebrews 9:23 Therefore it was necessary that the copies of the things in the heavens should be purified with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.

14. 4-HP JESUS AS OUR HIGH PRIEST The earthly sanctuary that Moses built was a type, figure, pattern, or shadow of the heavenly sanctuary. As the earthly sanctuary had its two apartments, so the heavenly has both a holy place and a most holy place.

15. 5-HP JESUS AS OUR HIGH PRIEST What was the duty of the high priest? Hebrews 8:3,4 For every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices. Therefore it is necessary that this One also have something to offer.

16. 5-HP JESUS AS OUR HIGH PRIEST 4- For if He were on earth, He would not be a priest, since there are priests who offer the gifts according to the law; - The service of the priests in the earthly sanctuary, in the former dispensation, was a type, or figure, of Christ’s ministry in the heavenly sanctuary during the Christian dispensation.

17. 5-HP JESUS AS OUR HIGH PRIEST And since the ceremonies of the sanctuary ceased at Christ’s death on the cross, the earthly priesthood also ceased. A careful reading of the book of Leviticus will show that the ceremonies in the earthly sanctuary consisted of two parts, a daily ministration in the first apartment (Heb. 9:6), and an annual ministration in

18. 5-HP JESUS AS OUR HIGH PRIEST the second apartment (Heb. 9:7). The service in the second apartment was carried on at the end of the religious year, at which time the sanctuary was cleansed, a final disposition being made of the sins of the people for that year (Lev. 16:6-22).

19. 6-HP JESUS AS OUR HIGH PRIEST What is the sacrifice used in the heavenly sanctuary? Hebrews 7:27 He Who does not need daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for His own sins and then for the people’s, for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself.

20. 6-HP JESUS AS OUR HIGH PRIEST On the cross, Jesus made a sacrifice offering ONCE FOR ALL -- an offering that is sufficient for the sins of all men. But only those who accept Him receive the benefits of His great sacrifice.

21. 7-HP JESUS AS OUR HIGH PRIEST Where did Jesus minister? Hebrews 9:24 For Christ ha the truebut into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us For Christ has not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us;

22. 7-HP JESUS AS OUR HIGH PRIEST After offering Himself as our true Lamb and Sacrifice, He ascended to the first apartment of the Heavenly sanctuary to plead the merits of His shed blood for those who accept Him as their Savior.

23. 8-HP JESUS AS OUR HIGH PRIEST What is our High Priest Jesus doing in the sanctuary now? Hebrews 7:25 Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.

24. 8-HP JESUS AS OUR HIGH PRIEST Jesus is able to save to the uttermost -- He intercedes for all who will come to Him (1 John 2:1). Just as surely as we accept Him, and are true to Him to the end, He secures forgiveness, salvation, and eternal life for us. Jesus served as man’s High Priest in the first apartment of the heavenly sanctuary until the end of the 2300 day/years in 1844.

25. 8-HP JESUS AS OUR HIGH PRIEST Then, according to Daniel 8:14, the time came for the cleansing of the sanctuary. In ancient times the high priest of the Levitical service cleansed the sanctuary once a year on the great Day of Atonement, also known as the day of Judgment.

26. 8-HP JESUS AS OUR HIGH PRIEST On this day, the high priest closed the yearly round of service by a special ceremony in the most holy place. So in the antitype, Jesus must have passed into the second apartment of the heavenly sanctuary in 1844 to perform the closing ceremony of His priestly work.

27. 9-HP JESUS AS OUR HIGH PRIEST What happens after the sanctuary is cleansed? Hebrews 9:28 So Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him, He will appear the second time, apart from sin, for salvation.

28. 9-HP JESUS AS OUR HIGH PRIEST When He finishes His work as Priest in the second apartment, Jesus will appear without sin to enter upon the divine program of actually making an end to sin.

29. 10-HP JESUS AS OUR HIGH PRIEST What happens to the sins that are cleansed from the sanctuary? Isaiah 43:25 I, am He I, even I, am He that blots out your transgressions for My own sake; And I will not remember your sins.

30. 10-HP JESUS AS OUR HIGH PRIEST Now is the time to make sure that all our sins are blotted out while Jesus is finishing His priestly work in the heavenly sanctuary.
