Practice Safety Hi, Smasher again. Working with electricity can be fun. To keep it fun, we need to discuss safety thoughout this lesson. If we pay close attention to safety for ourselves and others, we will have an enjoyable time learning about electricity. 2 Dr. Gary Stewardson, Raymond Boyles

Safety Practice One of the most important safety practices is to report any safety violations that you may see to your teacher. 3 Dr. Gary Stewardson, Raymond Boyles

Practice Safety You should never wear jewelry when working with electricity. When jewelry comes in contact with electricity and completes a circuit, an electric shock or burn may result. 4 Dr. Gary Stewardson, Raymond Boyles

Practice Safety You should never put anything on top of power cords. Items on power cords can damage the wires inside the cord and create a hazard. Question 1: What is a power cord? Question 2: What hazards can result by a heavy object being placed on the wire?. 5 Dr. Gary Stewardson, Raymond Boyles Teacher’s Notes: These items need to be covered: Q1: An electrical cord that supplies 120 VAC to electrical devices Q2a: An electrical short will cause heat which causes fire Q2b: An electrical open can cause equipment malfunction

Practice Safety Hello, Sparky here. Touching the inside of a wall receptacle is dangerous. However, touching a household battery is safe. When we were learning about conductivity you touched a household battery and you were safe. Look up receptacle. 6 Dr. Gary Stewardson, Raymond Boyles

Practice Safety Slippery here. I wanted to tell you never to work with electricity around water. Working with electricity around water is not safe. Make sure you are working in a dry area. 7 Dr. Gary Stewardson, Raymond Boyles

Safety Explanation Hi, Smiley again. It is so awesome that an adult will be in the lab to help you assemble electric circuits. The teachers will be wiring the electric plug and the power source for your safety. You should never attempt to re-wire the power source because the voltage in the receptacle is dangerous if touched by the human body. 8 Dr. Gary Stewardson, Raymond Boyles

Practice Safety Slippery again. Now it is time for us to complete the safety quiz. It was nice learning with you as this is the end of our lesson. 9 Dr. Gary Stewardson, Raymond Boyles
