My Favorite Athlete Michael Jordan Chicago Bulls Basketball Team Point Guard, Shooting Guard, & Forward Guard Kenya Davis My Favorite Athlete April 4, 2013
How it Happened Michael Jordan’s main influence to play basketball is his father James Jordan. His father thought him to work hard and motivated him. Without his father’s motivation, Jordan would not have continued playing basketball after failing to make his high team as a sophomore.
Major Accomplishments Named NBA Rookie of the Year (1985) A member of the gold medal-winning 1984 and 1992 United States Olympic Basketball Teams Ranked 3rd in All-Time leader in points scored All-Star record having the only triple-double in an All-Star game (1997)
Famous Quote I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed. If you're trying to achieve, there will be roadblocks. I've had them; everybody has had them. But obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.
Michael Jordan’s Hobbies and Interest He has two types of hobbies which are BASKETBALL and BASEBALL but he loves basketball more. In early 1994, Jordan decided to take up a new hobby alright. However, it wasn't golf. It was baseball. Despite not playing baseball since high school some 13 years ago, he signed a minor league contract with the Chicago White Sox in 1994. He played one unspectacular season for the Double-A Birmingham Barons.
Personal Life Jordan is the fourth of five children. He has two older brothers, Larry Jordan and James R. Jordan, Jr., one older sister, Deloris, and a younger sister, Roslyn. Jordan's brother James retired in 2006 as the Command Sergeant Major of the 35th Signal Brigade of the XVIII Airborne Corps in the U.S. Army. He married Juanita Vanoy in September 1989, and they have two sons, Jeffrey Michael and Marcus James, and a daughter, Jasmine. Jordan and Vanoy filed for divorce on January 4, 2002, citing irreconcilable differences, but reconciled shortly thereafter. They again filed for divorce and were granted a final decree of dissolution of marriage on December 29, 2006. Juanita received a $168 million settlement, making it the largest celebrity divorce settlement in history at the time on public record. He proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Cuban-American model Yvette Prieto, on Christmas Eve, 2011, and is engaged. Jordan listed his Highland Park mansion for sale in 2012. Jordan's private jet features a stripe in North Carolina blue, the "Air Jordan" logo on the tail, and references to his career in the identification number.
