Forest Practices Code Transition Woodlots & CFAs Al Waters Senior Woodlot Licence Forester, MOF

Woodlots & CFAs Introduction  FDP for CFAs  FDP for woodlots  Site plans for woodlots and CFAs  Roads for woodlots and CFAs

Woodlots & CFAs FDPs for Community Forest Agreements  FDPs for CFAs are not extended to April 1, 2005  FDPs for CFAs expire as specified in their letter of approval  FDPs for CFAs can be extended for up to 1 year

Woodlots & CFAs FDPs for Woodlot Licences  FDPs that are due to expire before April 1, 2005, are extended to April 1, 2005.  FDPs that are due to expire after April 1, 2005, remain in effect until the expiry date specified in their Letter of Approval.  One year extensions of woodlot FDPs are eliminated.  FDPs that expired in the last year are also automatically extended to April 1, 2005.

Woodlots & CFAs Reduced Content for new FDPs  green-up and cutblock size considerations have been eliminated  referral to resource agencies eliminated  there is a reduced list of “forest resources” that require measures to protect

Woodlots & CFAs Site Plans for Woodlots  WLs and CFAs still required to prepare and obtain the DM’s approval of a Site Plan for new harvest areas  unless the area qualifies for a Site Plan exemption  Site Plans no longer need to describe the function of trees that are retained in Riparian Management Zones

Woodlots & CFAs Roads for Woodlots and CFAs  Sections 44 to 57 of the WLFMR are repealed and replaced with wording that parallels sections 4 to 17 of the Forest Road Regulation  Persons involved with WLs and CFAs should review Ron Davis’ information on amendments to road requirements

Woodlots & CFAs Different Road Requirements for WLs and CFAs Compared to Major Licensees  WLs and CFAs are only required to prepare RLADs in 3 situations where DM approval of the RLAD is required  WLs and CFAs are not required to make RLADs publicly available  WLs and CFAs can be authorized to construct or modify any road on the Crown portion of a WL or CFA using a Road Permit or Cutting Permit

Woodlots & CFAs Roads for Woodlots and CFAs  Preparation of a RLAD and DM approval is required in only 3 circumstances:  Work in riparian reserve zones or riparian management zones, other than crossings  Within 100 m upslope of a known licensed community water supply intake  In areas of unstable or potentially unstable terrain, where the licensee proposes measures that will not result in the least likelihood of a landslide
