1 Sightseeing of London

2 In fact, Big Ben is the largest of the six bells of Westminster Palace in London. But it has long been associated with the name of the Clock Tower, which in September 2012 was officially called “Elizabeth Tower”. The decision to rename the tower was made by the British Parliament to mark the 60th anniversary of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. The tower was built in 1858. The project architect was Augustus Pugin. The height of the tower and spire is 96.3 m. The Palace of Westminster, and therefore the tower, is on the Parliament square next to Westminster Abbey. On the opposite side of the palace there is the Thames embankment. The Clock Tower is the largest four-sided clock mechanism in the world, and in addition, with the most accurate clocks. In the base of each of the four clock dials there is a Latin inscription “Domine Salvam fac Reginam nostram Victoriam primam” (“God save our Queen Victoria I”). Around the perimeter of the tower, on the left and on the right of the clock, there is another phrase in Latin – “Laus Deo” (“Glory to God” or “Praise the Lord”). There used to be a prison in Big Ben. The last prisoner of Big Ben was a fighter for women’s rights Emmeline Pankhurst. Now, next to the Parliament there is a monument to her.

3 Tower Bridge is the only drawbridge on the Thames and, perhaps, the most famous bridge of London. Engineers have thought of everything so that during construction the movement of ships on the Thames was not violated. Drawbridge the bridge was built largely in order to solve the problem of unimpeded navigation of vessels. Tower Bridge connects the banks of the Thames just below London bridge. It is the most recognizable from the London bridge and is a masterpiece of engineering. The need for the construction of the Tower Bridge occurred due to the fact that the existing bridges could not cope with the increasing load. By 1870, the ninth year the situation with heavy traffic has become very serious, and in 1874-1875. the city authorities have received about thirty of appeals from state agencies with a proposal extensions London bridge or build another.

4 At the turn of the second and third millennia each country in their own way preparing for the change of epochs, and the British response to the Millennium became the "London eye", which was inaugurated on the last day of the twentieth century. A huge Ferris wheel, which stands on the South Bank of the famous river Thames, in itself is remarkable. For example, we can say that the number ovate kalinchok-capsules no accident. London has thirty two suburbs, and it is these that symbolize the thirty-two cabins capsules of the London eye. It is worth to mention led lighting installed on the Ferris wheel at the end of 2006 - thanks to her and without that monumental miracle of British engineering gets its own special and unique charm. Even the mere contemplation of the London eye at dusk with lights is an unforgettable experience. But, of course, the main charm of this Ferris wheel is quite different. One rotation takes a full thirty minutes and during this time, you can enjoy the opening at the bottom of the wonderful views. The height of the wheel in one hundred and thirty-five meters is approximately equal to the height of sorokapyatiletnij house, and from this height, even the Palace of Westminster or big Ben, the most famous monuments of London, seem small. Same with the London eye offers a wonderful view of the Thames, and, as you know, on the flowing water you can watch endlessly. In General, to describe all the delights of visiting the London eye is impossible, you have to experience it yourself. Will be in London, you must visit this architectural wonder. The London eye is waiting for You!
