2 Hair and Balloons The balloon experiment: Rubbing a balloon against your hair, you discharge the electrons from your hair into the balloon. This changes the electrons from positive to negative, and making the balloon start being attracted to your hair. Opposite poles attract, and this causes the balloon to draw the hair to the balloon.

3 Van de Graaff Generator
The Van de Graaff generator creates static electricity by a moving belt. This causes lots of electricity to go into the hollow metal ball at the top of the generator. This charge discharges into anyone who touches it, and makes their hair repel from each other, making them stand up on end.

4 Uses of static electricity

5 Photo Copy Machines Static electricity is used in photo copy machines to attract the ink to the right places on the paper. The inc is made static.

6 Spray Painting Static electricity is applied to paint, making all of the paint the same charge. This makes the paint repel from each other, spreading it out, making the process of painting a lot faster.

7 Dust Removal Dust removal devices use static electricity. They change the charges of the dust, making the dust attract to the filters.

8 Problems Computer motherboards can be destroyed by static electricity. Replacing these can cause lots of money. Static electricity can cause an explosion if there are flammable gasses present. This can cause death or injury.
