Introduction Organisations are continually looking at their interaction portals with Customers Internet is emerging as a main source for interaction Service portals need to be user-friendly and effective Inter-active sites are replacing static info pages Customer navigation preferences differ (provide options) Time and efficiency are key drivers Use of Geographic Information Science (GIS) is ideal Integrated computer system for capturing, storing, querying, analysing and displaying geo-spatial data Customers are familiar with this (google maps, GPS, etc) Used extensively in web sites currently

Project Purpose To select a site currently in use as a starting point Build in input and advice from business owner Demonstrate the benefits of geo-spatial components Integrate a number of methods (web site & mapping & script) To provide a prototype for enhancement of a web site Generate some discussions on streamlining the site Ideally for some of the ideas to be built in To work as a project team, tapping into skill sets

Web Site chosen and observations Inland Revenue – Seminars and Workshops sites Aware that this service is of prime focus for advisors Found under www.ird.govt.nz, when searching for “Seminars”www.ird.govt.nz Opening note: This already provides a strong platform for the service (already a well thought out site in place) Ideas provided are around making this interactive and more user-friendly Some fine tuning suggestions noted: Difficult to locate existing pages (more links & main page link?) Some regions have e-mail link, others don’t No option to see larger region lists (e.g. Auckland) Some differences in each regional page layout

Input from the Business Met with the business to run over the project Discussed early ideas and options Clarified on the workshops/seminars, regions, and categories Confirmed contact details required, and additional useful info, e.g. Type (Employer, self-employed, etc) Interest (GST, Rental, etc) Stage (New Business, established, etc) Discussed potential longer term enhancements Organised for presentation back to the business

Research of Options Google Map interface New Zealand (mxd) map already in production Post code prompts Search options for business type, region Click-able regions in current map Build a map in ArcGIS with supporting data Network analysis – closest distance to seminar Provide directions for attendees Integrate into web site

Web Maps already available (research) Part of the research was looking at existing maps. Further Development & Next Steps Other ideas include: Having regional, category & Post code prompts as well as interactive map Having a booking on line process for customers Obtaining key info from attendee, so can customise workshop/seminar GIS developed interactive map showing other community services Network analysis feature – select best location of customer vs. seminars Extension to Advisory visits Provide a geographic list of advisories (effective management) – Earthquake Commission approach Centralised reporting and statistics Next Steps
