2 Renting If you are interested in renting a place to live, where could you learn about possible rental opportunities.  Newspaper  Internet  Friends  Family

3 Renting You can either rent an apartment or a house. List three things you need to consider when deciding which to rent.  Location  Cost  Space  Number of rooms  Appliances included  Amenities (i.e. pool, rec room, etc.)

4 Renting List three advantages of renting a home or an apartment vs. buying a home.  Rent includes the utilities  It may be furnished  Renter not responsible for overall maintenance  Not responsible for property taxes  Financial responsibility is limited to rent and the security deposit

5 Renting List three disadvantages of renting a home or an apartment vs. buying a home.  You do not own it  You are not building equity  Limited privacy  Unable to make changes without permission  Possible eviction

6 Renting Before you start looking for an apartment or a house, you should make a list of things you would like to have or to be included in the apartment.  Heat  Water  Appliances  Garage

7 Renting Besides the rent, what are some other expenses you will need to pay when you first move into an apartment.  Security deposit  Electricity  Cable  Telephone

8 Renting Name then things you will need to purchase when you live on your own. Find the cost of each and be sure to name your source.  Various types of furniture  Items for the kitchen  Things for the bathroom  Outdoor patio furniture Be specific and list the cost and source for each item.

9 Purchasing a Car If you are going to purchase a new car, what questions should you ask?  What kind of warranty does the car have?  How many miles per gallon does the car get?  What safety features are included?

10 Purchasing a Car If you are going to purchase a used car, what questions should you ask?  How many miles are on it?  What year is it?  Why are you selling your car?  Was the car ever in an accident?

11 Purchasing a Car Name three places you could go to secure an auto loan.  Bank  Credit union  Car dealership

12 Purchasing Insurance Name a place and phone number where you can get auto insurance  Auto insurance companies can be found on the Internet or in a phone book.

13 Research if you state requires you to carry auto insurance. If it does, what type of insurance is required?  Changes were made to ensure that vehicles driven on California roads have liability insurance that provides financial responsibility for any damage or injury caused by a traffic accident, regardless of fault, and to remove uninsured vehicles from the highways. $15,000 for injury/death to one person $30,000 for injury/death to more than one person $5,000 for damage to property. 14 What is bodily-injury liability insurance? Define it.  Bodily injury insurance helps pay for an injured person’s medical expenses and lost wages if you’re at fault in a car accident. Purchasing Insurance

15 What is collision insurance? Define it.  Collision insurance helps you pay for damage to your own car if your car hits another vehicle or object. Purchasing Insurance

16 What are some factors that influence what you will pay for auto insurance?  Age  Marital status  Previous accidents  If you live in a city or the country  How far you drive to work or school Purchasing Insurance
