Invertebrates Animals Without a Backbone

Starfish (Echinoderm) They live in the ocean. They have 5 or 6 arms. Their arms or spines come out from the center of its body. They do not have a front or a back. They can move in any direction without turning.

Earthworm (Annelid) They can live for about 6½ years. They do not have eyes. They breathe through their skin. They will hibernate when the temperature gets close to freezing. They are slimy because they coat themselves in mucus.

Clam (Mollusks) They have 2 hard shells that protect a soft body. The biggest clam is the Giant Clam. They come in many colours such as brown, red-brown, and cream. When it is threatened, a clam will close its shell tightly around its soft body.

Praying Mantis (Arthropod) The colour of a praying mantis can be light greens to pinks. Most are pea green or brown. They are able to camouflage themselves. They use their very powerful jaws to eat their prey.
