How Far Would You Run For a Doughnut? By:Fahad Al Thani

How many calories in one doughnut? Source: www.dietbites.comwww.dietbites.com One Krispy Kreme original glazed donut has 200 calories.

Calories burned by a runner Source: www.runnersworld.comwww.runnersworld.com Mathematical formula Calories = kilometers x kilograms x 1.036

Calories burned by 65 kg runner For 1 km Calories = 1km x 65 kg x 1.036 = 67.34 For 2 km Calories = 2km x 65 kg x 1.036 = 134.68 For 3 km Calories = 3km x 65 kg x 1.036 = 202.02

Conclusion A Krispy Kreme original glazed has 200 calories A 65 kg person will burn approximately 202 calories by running 3 km So a 65 kg person will have to run about 3 km to burn off just one Krispy Kreme original glazed

Question 1 How does someone work out the number of calories they burn when running? We work it out by using the formula Calories = kilometers x kilograms x 1.036

Question 2 How far would they have to run to burn the calories that are in a donut? How did you work it out? I used the example of a 65 kg person and used the formula to calculate the calories burned for 1 km, 2 km, and 3 km. We multiplied the distance by the weight by 1.036.

Question 3 How can knowing how to do arithmetic with decimals help you make good health decisions? It is important to understand decimals to do the calculations in our formula. If you do not know decimals, then you cannot do the calculations. It was helpful to know the calories burned in this example.

Question 4 Which part of the Learner Profile did you develop in this unit? I have learned that exercise is important to help burn off calories. A balanced diet and exercise would be healthy for your body.
