2 ICT At Glenthorne Information Communications Technology is a very important part of the modern world. There are few people who’s lives have not been affected by the changes brought about by the development of ICT. The courses offered allow pupils the chance to understand the effects and limitations of information and communication technology and the new opportunities it provides within organisations and society.

3 The importance of Business Studies Business activity affects the daily lives of all as they work, spend, save, invest, travel and play. It influences jobs, incomes, and opportunities for personal enterprise.. Young people need to understand how business functions, the role it plays in our society, the opportunities it generates, the skills it requires, and the impact it can have on their own lives and on society, today and in the future.

4 Key Stage 3 ICT Pupils follow the Key Stage 3 ICT National Strategy and receive a one hour lesson per week, Pupils are taught to develop their skills using a range of exercises which continually build on their existing skills. This enhances their knowledge and confidence as they develop their knowledge towards the end of key stage when they should be autonomous users of ICT.

5 KS3 Podcasting club The club is involved with recording broadcasts with special sound effects that will be freely available to download Tuesday Lunchtimes are now bringing audiences alive via recorded digital audio files

7 OCR Nationals Level 2 If you’re looking for an interesting and attainable ICT qualification at Level 2 that gives you relevant work-place skills, that has an emphasis on creativity and graphic communications software, then take a look at the improved Nationals in ICT: For the full OCR Level 2 National First Award in ICT, you must achieve the 2 units = 1 GCSE grade A*-C For the full OCR Level 2 National Award in ICT you must achieve the 3 units = 2 GCSEs grades A*-C For the full OCR Level 2 National First Certificate in ICT, you must achieve the 4 units = 3 GCSEs grades A*-C For the full OCR Level 2 National Certificate in ICT, you must achieve the 6 units = 4 GCSEs A*-C

8 GCSE ICT Pupils follow the OCR GCSE Syllabus and will study for the Full Course GCSE ICT. Pupils will discover the many uses of ICT in Society and will further develop their applications knowledge. This will be tested by completing an assignment set by the examination board and also a piece of coursework of their own choosing. End of course examinations also test their theoretical knowledge.

10 GCSE Business Studies Students of the Business GCSE will: Actively engage in the study of business and economics to develop as effective and independent students and as critical and reflective thinkers with enquiring minds Use an enquiring, critical approach to distinguish facts and opinions, build arguments and make informed judgements Develop and apply their knowledge, understanding and skills to contemporary issues in a range of local, national and global contexts Appreciate the range of perspectives of different stakeholders in relation to business and economic activities consider the extent to which business and economic activity can be ethical and sustainable

11 GCSE Business Studies Course Content: Units 1,2 and 3 Unit 1 Introduction to Small Business Overview of content This unit contains five topics: 1.spotting a business opportunity 2.showing enterprise 3.putting a business idea into practice 4.making the start-up effective 5.understanding the economic context. Overview of assessment External examination: 45 minutes Unit 2 Investigating Small Business Overview of content Same content as Unit 1. Overview of assessment This unit is internally assessed under controlled conditions. Students complete one Edexcel-set task with a total of 40 marks Unit 3 Building a Business This unit contains five topics: 1.marketing 2.meeting customer needs 3.effective financial management 4.effective people management 5.the wider world affecting business. Overview of assessment Written examination: 1 hour 30 minutes

13 OCR Nationals Level 3 For year 12 the OCR Nationals in ICT Level 3 offer students a more in-depth look at ICT in the modern workplace, and give an insight into its role in specialist careers. As an alternative to GCE, or similar exam-based courses, these qualifications provide ongoing learning and assessment of the practical skills and knowledge required to succeed in ICT-related careers.

14 AS and A2 ICT (Year 12 & 13) The ICT course is concerned with applying ICT knowledge to solve a variety of business style tasks. There are opportunities within the theory element to understand and investigate how ICT is used in the world today. Candidates will use a wide variety of software and hardware during this course

15 AS and A2 ICT:- Course Content The AS and A2 Modules are broken into two sections. AS:- Module 1– Information, Systems and Applications Module 2—Coursework (Range of applications) A2:- Module 3—ICT Systems, Applications and Implications, Module 4—Information– Policy, Strategy and Systems

17 AS/A2 Applied Business Studies Whatever you do in your professional life, the chances are that it will involve some ‘business’. Scientists, engineers, even artists, will inevitably have to understand at least the basics of business, and probably a lot more. A Business A Level gives students the opportunity to study business through primary research by way of off-site visits with the aim of completing investigations into certain aspects of business. In addition to this, students will learn the theory and skills needed to complete external examinations.

18 AS/A2 Applied Business Studies-Course Content AS and A Level Applied Business courses enable candidates to develop both a broad understanding of Applied business principles. The AS and A2 years each will consist of two portfolio units and one exam unit. AS UnitsA2 Units Investigating business Business Planning People in Business Marketing Strategy Financial planning and monitoringThe Marketing Environment

19 KS5 BTEC Business A National Award in Business is the equivalent to one A’level and students can achieve grades a pass, merit or distinction which will prepare you for a career in almost any organisation. Throughout the course you will gain a broad understanding of how businesses function and the activities in which they engage. This will range from how businesses advertise and market products to how they raise and manage their finances.

20 KS5 BTEC Business: Course Content Over the two years students will complete 6 units which will develop your business skills and knowledge. In each unit students will be required to complete reports, presentations and take part in group projects. You will study a wide range of business areas and specialisms. Some units are compulsory and some are optional; some example units are listed below:- Marketing e-business Exploring business activity Starting a small business Business communication Introduction to accounting

21 Business Trips One fantastic trip that is run for the year 12 Business Students is a trip to Chelsea Football Club. The Business department runs some exciting trips out into the Business world for students to be able to develop ‘real-life’ Business Skills.
