 What is the play for a winning touchdown paragraph? COACH - MIKE TOMLIN Quarterback - #7, Ben Roethlisberger Center - #64, Doug Legursky Running Back - #34, Rashard Mendenhall Wide Receiver – #86, Hines Ward Defensive End - #99, Brett Keisel Linebacker - #92, James Harrison Nose Tackle - #98, Casey Hampton Wide Receiver - #17, Mike Wallace Strong Safety - #43, Troy Polamalu Tackle - #71 Flozell Adams Inside Linebacker - #51, James Farrior INTO THE END ZONE – TOUCHDOWN!!!

 The Coach coordinates and supports all of his players to get them to the End Zone for a TOUCHDOWN!!!!!  So........you have the Coach, holding the players together, to get to the End Zone to score a TOUCHDOWN!!!!!

Without the COACH and the END ZONE, how can the team even score a TOUCHDOWN?

The TOPIC SENTENCES introduces the main idea of each of your paragraphs. This main idea of the paragraph supports the CONTROLLING IDEA of what you are writing about. CONTROLLING IDEA: The Pittsburgh Steelers are the best football team in the NFL. They have a great Defensive Line. Tomlin is a fantastic Head Coach. Roethlisberger leads under pressure. Paragraph #1 Paragraph #2Paragraph #3

A paragraph without a topic sentence is like........  Ben Roethlisberger without number 7 on his shirt.  Coach Mike Tomlin without his playbook.  A Pittsburgh Steelers fan without their “TERRIBLE TOWEL”.

The Assistant Coach/Defensive Line, John Mitchell, is experienced. He has the know-how to make Pittsburgh’s defense the famous “Steel Curtain”. Troy Polamalu is a super strong safety, because he runs in there on the defensive and gets the job done! If you want someone to depend on to sack the New York Jets quarterback, Brett Keisel is the man to do the job right. When it comes to scoring, Pittsburgh’s “Steel Curtain” can get the job done. What TOPIC SENTENCE would be best to complete this paragraph?

He was hired as the 16 th head coach in Pittsburgh Steelers history on January 22, 2007. Tomlin became the youngest head coach in NFL history to both coach and win a Super Bowl when he led the Pittsburgh Steelers to a 27-23 victory over the Arizona Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII. He plans and supports the Pittsburgh Steelers to lead them on another Super Bowl win! What TOPIC SENTENCE would be best to complete this paragraph?

A few years back, he was a second string quarterback that was called upon to help his team out when the first string quarterback was injured. Even though Roethlisberger is 6 foot, five inches, and he weighs 241 pounds, his strong arm finds its way to the appropriate receiver. He has leadership skills on the field that drive the offensive line all the way into the END ZONE! If no one is there to receive the football, then “Big Ben” runs to gain yardage. Hopefully Ben Roethlisberger will lead his team to a seventh Super Bowl win! What TOPIC SENTENCE would be best to complete this paragraph?

How do I make a winning transition for each paragraph? Use a GREAT transition to start your paragraphs: In additionWhileFirst/Second/Third Finally/LastTo begin withIn conclusion UnfortunatelyEqually importantBetween SimilarlyFirst of allOn the other hand ConsequentlyFartherHence HoweverThereforeAccordingly OtherwiseBesidesYet Instead ofFurthermoreNext AlsoLastFinally Above allAdditionallyFor example

To begin with, the Pittsburgh Steelers have a super defensive line.

In addition, Mike Tomlin is a fantastic head coach.

Finally, Ben Roethlisberger is a quarterback that knows how to lead his team.

Put these sentences in order and then add a topic sentence to complete the paragraph.  You need to get a knife to spread on the peanut butter.  Get two pieces of bread from the wrapped loaf.  Spread the peanut butter onto the pieces of bread.  Locate the peanut butter and open up the jar.  You need a plate to put the bread on before you can start.  Put the two pieces of bread onto the plate.  After spreading the peanut butter on the bread, put the two pieces of bread together.  Cut the sandwich in half with the knife.  Finally, you can sit down and enjoy your peanut butter sandwich.
