Quiz: Essay Question 1.Describe as completely as possible how Project Integration Management is defined in the PMBOK ® Guide. 2.Points for any of these key words or phrases: Project Plan Change control, change management Coordination, integration, organization Overall, over-arching Process, tools, techniques Project management information system, database Structured approach, standardized approach

4 Copyright© 2004 Roger Beatty. All rights reserved.. Quiz: Fill in the Blank 1.In the PMBOK ® PIM is defined as a knowledge area. 2.In the PMBOK ® PIM consists of the project management process groups: planning, executing and controlling. 3.But not initiating and closing. 4.The processes in PIM are primarily integrative. 5.PIM defines section 4.1 as Project Plan Development. 6.PIM defines section 4.2 as Project Plan Execution. 7.PIM defines section 4.3 as Integrated Change Control. 8.There are many (  ) ways to present a project plan. 9.CCB stands for Configuration Control Board. 10.Lessons learned should be documented.

5 Copyright© 2004 Roger Beatty. All rights reserved.. Quiz: Math-oriented 1.PIM has 3 of the 39 project management processes. 2.PIM is defined as 1 of 9 knowledge areas. 3.PIM includes 3 of the process groups, but does not include 2 of the process groups. 4.PIM consists of 8% of all project management processes. 5.Each PIM project management process has 3 sections. 6.PIM is defined in Section number 4 of the PMBOK ®. 7.PIM sub-Sections are numbered 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3. 8.There are  ways to present a project plan. 9.PIM includes EVM, a set of equations used to measure and report on project performance during the project.

6 Copyright© 2004 Roger Beatty. All rights reserved.. Quiz: True or False 1.In the PMBOK ®, PIM is defined as a knowledge area. T 2.PIM includes 4 process groups. F 3.PIM does not include 2 process groups. T 4.The processes in PIM are primarily integrative. T 5.PIM begins with Project Plan Execution. F 6.PMIS is used only on government projects. F 7.Earned Value Management is part of PIM. T 8.There are many ways to present a project plan. T 9.CCB stands for Civilian Configuration Board. F 10.Lessons learned should be shared but not stored. 8 Copyright© 2004 Roger Beatty. All rights reserved.. What is Project Integration Management? Includes processes required to ensure that the various elements of the project are properly coordinated. The processes are primarily integrative. Includes three major PM processes: –Project Plan Development –Project Plan Execution –Integrated Change Control

9 Copyright© 2004 Roger Beatty. All rights reserved.. Why is PIM important? Its processes are required to ensure the coordination and integration of competing objectives and alternatives. It is the over-arching knowledge area. –It is the only knowledge area focused on project plan development and execution. –It contains the three highest level project management processes. Its processes integrate with the processes in other knowledge areas.

10 Copyright© 2004 Roger Beatty. All rights reserved.. What are key PIM concepts? PIM processes interact with each other and with processes in other knowledge areas. All work in the project plan is integrated. The work of the project must be integrated with the ongoing operations of the organization. Project plan development includes the outputs of other planning processes (i.e, strategic planning) The provisions in a contract are generally constraints. There are many ways to organize and present a project plan. General management skills (e.g., leadership, communicating, negotiating) are essential to project plan execution.

The Elevator Speech Project Integration Management is a key concept and skill that is the hallmark of PMI and the project management professional. It includes the processes that are required to ensure that all the various elements of a project plan are properly coordinated. The key is coordination and integration. Using Project Integration Management, all the pieces of a complex project plan fit together. This is how we balance time, cost and quality. Where do you think we would be without Project Integration Management?
