7 How are these chemical forms created? ●Carbohydrates- product of photosynthesis (C 6 H 12 O 6 ) ●CO 2 - product of cellular respiration ● Carbonate-formed in aquatic carbon cycle between organisms and CO 2 dissolved in water ●Bicarbonate-dissolved from decay processes ●Calcium Carbonate- exists naturally in sedimentary rocks

8 how is this nutrient used by living organisms? ● Plants, algae, and certain bacteria remove carbon from the air and incorporate it into chemical compounds during photosynthesis ● These food-making organisms need carbon to create carbohydrates (essential for growth) ● Other living organisms, such as animals, need carbohydrates for energy but cannot create it on their own ● to obtain carbohydrates, herbivores eat green plants and break down the carbohydrates into useful substances and carnivores eat herbivores carbohydrates (sugars): act as source of energy
