Welcome To

Improving Remote File Transfer Speeds By The Solution For: 300-400%

With Remote Network Accelerator (RNA) You Can: 1) Reduce the time spent waiting for files to download/upload. 2) Upload only the changes made to files instead of the whole file. 3) Reduce RAS and Wireless access charges by reducing file access time.

How does RNA work: RNA speeds up remote access to your office network through a combination of the following technologies: Local storage of network files (caching) Incremental updates using SpeedSync Compression of data and more efficient transfer

RNA and Caching: What is Local storage of network files (caching)? When you access a network file from a remote location, RNA places a copy of the file in a cache on your local hard disk. While Working on the file, you work from the cached copy. When you Save the file, you update both copies. When you open the file again, RNA compares the network copy with the cached copy and opens the Cached copy whenever they are identical. When the files are not Identical, the cache is updated and then opened.

RNA and Caching: You can see the Cache Statistics in the Properties window of RNA. You access this by clicking on the “Properties” button and then clicking on the Cache tab. With in this window you can change the size And location of the cache, empty the cache, stop and restart acceleration, and perform advanced Operations such as encrypting the cache to secure it.

RNA and SpeedSync: You can see the Cache Savings in the Properties window of RNA. You access this by left clicking on the “Properties” button.

RNA and SpeedSync: What is Incremental updates using SpeedSync? When you are updating files, SpeedSync shortens transfer times By sending only the parts of the files that have changed since the Last update. SpeedSync works with your local cache to reduce the amount of data transferred. When you save a network file, for example, only the most recent changes are sent back to the network, not the entire file. The same thing happens when you open a network file that has been changed since the last time you accessed it from your remote location

RNA and SpeedSync: You can see the SpeedSync Savings in the Properties window of RNA. You access this by left clicking on the “Properties” button.

RNA and Compression: What is Compression of data and more efficient transfer? Compression speeds the transmission of data by “shrinking” files before they are sent and restoring them to their original sizes on arrival. For even greater efficiency, it also groups and compresses requests for data from the other computer

RNA and Compression: You can see the Compression Savings in the Properties window of RNA. You access this by left clicking on the “Properties” button.

Requirements for installing RNA Client: Client computers must meet the following requirements Running Microsoft Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0/Windows 2000 Workstation, or Windows XP. Using Intel or Intel-compatible processor that meets the Requirements of your Windows Operating System. 8MB RAM plus the RAM that meets the requirements of your Windows Operating System. 5MB disk space free for the program files and at least 5MB disk Space free for the cache.

Requirements for installing RNA Server: Office network must meet the following requirements Running a Microsoft or Novell NetWare network A computer running Microsoft Windows NT 4.0/Windows 2000 Server or Workstation, or Windows XP on which the RNA Server Is installed A VPN connection over the internet or a remote access server (such as those available from Microsoft or Cisco)

How to Install RNA Server and Client: To Install Laplink RNA Client Whether you’re using a CD-ROM or connecting to a network share for installation following the instructions below ensure successful installation. To Install Laplink RNA Server On the Laplink RNA welcome screen, click Install Client. Follow the instructions on the screen. Restart Windows to enable the RNA Client On the Laplink RNA welcome screen, click Install Server. Follow the instructions on the screen. Restart Windows to enable the RNA Server

Setting up an RNA Server: This section will contain information on how to setup an RNA Server

Connecting an RNA Client to an RNA Server: First you need to connect to your network as you normally would whether that’s through dial-up, VPN, wireless access, etc. Once connected log onto your network. The first time you access network files over a slow connection, you’re asked whether you want to connect to an RNA server. If an RNA server has been setup on your network click yes. (If you’re unsure whether there’s an RNA server on the network ask your Network Administrator)

Connecting an RNA Client to an RNA Server Cont: Double clicking on theicon in the windows system tray After clicking Yes the Remote Network Accelerator Manager will appear. NOTE: You can also access the Remote Network Accelerator Manager by:

Connecting an RNA Client to an RNA Server Cont: From the Laplink – Remote Network Accelerator Manager, click Service then click Designate Servers.

Connecting an RNA Client to an RNA Server Cont: From the Designate Servers window, click the Add button

Connecting an RNA Client to an RNA Server Cont: From the Add a Preferred Server window you can either: 1) Select the server from Servers available now 2) Type the IP address of the RNA server into the IP name or address field

Connecting an RNA Client to an RNA Server Cont: The Designate Servers window will now display the RNA server you selected or the IP address you entered instead of. To proceed click OK.

Connecting an RNA Client to an RNA Server Cont: After clicking OK, you are returned to the Remote Network Accelerator Manager where you need to click the Enable button.

Connecting an RNA Client to an RNA Server Cont: After clicking Enable, the Connect button becomes accessible. Click the Connect button.

Connecting an RNA Client to an RNA Server Cont: Upon clicking the Connect button a Connect Servers Manually window will appear and the Server that you just added will be Highlighted. Click the Connect button and then click the Close button.

Connecting an RNA Client to an RNA Server Cont: After clicking OK, you are returned to the Remote Network Accelerator Manager where you will now see the Status enabled and the description Will say Connected to

Working with Files on the Network: Now that you know how to connect to your RNA Server. Let’s run a little test to see how much assistance RNA provides. Note: Acceleration Is more noticeable over a remote connection, like a phone line. 1) Disable RNA by clicking on the Disable button

Working with Files on the Network: With RNA disabled: 1) Copy a large file from the network (one megabyte or larger) to your desktop 2) Note how long the copy process takes 3) Delete the file from your desktop that you just copied 4) Empty the recycle bin on your desktop

Working with Files on the Network: Enable RNA (click Enable, click Connect, in the Connect Servers Manually window click Connect and then click Close) then: 1) Copy the same file that you copied with RNA disabled 2)Note how much faster the copy process was, compared to when RNA was disabled. 3)Click Properties and in the Laplink Remote Network Accelerator Properties window to review the statistics and see how much caching, speedsync and compression benefit you received.

What do the Acceleration Statistics really mean?: 1)Total bytes sent and received: shows the total number of bytes that your computer has requested to receive from or send to the network. 2) Unaccelerated and Accelerated: indicate how much of the information transferred over the remote connection is accelerated. Laplink RNA first looks in the cache to see if it can use data stored there. If possible, it uses SpeedSync to transfer only information that is not cached. It compresses the remaining data to the smallest size possible to transfer it quickly. All data that is found in the cache or compressed is Accelerated data. The actual data that transfers across the connection is Unaccelerated. The more accelerated bytes, the faster the transfer. 3) Saved by Compression and Saved by Caching/SpeedSync: break down the accelerated statistic to show how that total was reached. If you access the same network files regularly, you will see a higher value in the Saved by Caching/SpeedSync statistic. Otherwise, most accleration is a result of Laplink RNA’s Saved by Compression.

What do the Acceleration Statistics really mean? Cont: 4) Acceleration Ratio: represents the level of acceleration achieved. A value of 300% means that Laplink RNA is making file access three times faster than it would be without acceleration. 5) Average Speed: shows the average speed of data traveling across the connection when files are opened or transferred.

Resetting the Acceleration Statistics: Reset Statistics if you want to closely monitor specific network activity. For example, if you want to learn the details about how a particular file is accelerated, reset the statistics before you transfer the file. You can then check to see how much of the file was accelerated and ho much faster you can actually work with Laplink RNA. To reset statistics, click the Reset Statistics button

Managing the Cache: Laplink RNA keeps a cache of network files to reduce the amount of information passing between the network and your remote computer. Change the cache location by typing or Browsing to a new path. Drag the Max Cache Size slider to change the allowed size of the cache. Laplink RNA automatically removes the oldest information from the Cache when it reaches the set size limit. Laplink RNA monitors the cache on disks as large as 4gb. You can clear the Cache by clicking on the Clear Cache Now button.

Thank you for using Enjoy!
