4. Causes Sudden Cardiac Arrest is caused by a malfunction of the electrical system: It is caused by a rhythm that causes the heart to STOP its regular beating routine. The most common cause is Ventricular Fibrillation. Continuous blood flow to the rest of the body ceases.

5. Frequency/Rate This disease affects up to 380,000 people a year in the United States alone. If simplified then that is approximately 1,000 people per day(one person every two minutes) 95% of the patients die before help arrives; the reason being because the brain dies within 6 minutes of receiving no oxygen supply whatsoever.

7. Treatments Overview: Acute Assess for pulse and breathing Call 911 Begin CPR Automatic Defibrillator For Long-term treatment: Use Implantable Cardiac Defibrillator

8. Diagnosis If a patient survives until they are medically attended, then they undergo an: Various blood tests Echocardiogram Electrophysiological testing

9. Prevention Long term: Implantable Cardiac Defibrillator- Placed under the skin with electrodes in the heart. Monitors the rhythm of the heart. Delivers short, high-energy shock if ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation are discovered. Patient feels a jolt.
