1 Technology for the Music Teacher Anne Tinklenberg-Peters

2 Why Technology? Principals are looking to see how we integrate technology in to our class It can make things easier for you It can make your class run more smoothly (procedures, objectives, charts) It can add fun and interest to your lessons More information to support learning.

3 Hardware Your computer and dongle A Projector If you want louder sound, a speaker for play back. Some rooms have a ceiling projector-you need an audio cable connecting your computer to the wall panel. Or you can connect to an amp, stereo, or computer speakers via cable or bluetooth If a document camera is available, you can use it to show pages in your book, theory handouts, etc. Other- Camera, iPad, iPad dongle

5 Synergy/Genesis Access to your student information Language, email, address, phone numbers, siblings, etc Attendance information Enrollment/transfer information Grade book- progress reports Change order of names to match your record book Use categories to help final grades synergy

6 Garageband Don’t be scared of Garage band! You can record yourself (accompaniment, examples) You can record your group live (analysis) You can use Midi input or live recording You can create your own accompaniment tracks for your students to play along with and have adjustable tempos and instrumentation.

7 iTunes Create playlists to use on an iPod Import your own CDs for your class to hear Buy tracks off iTunes store (examples for your class to hear) Burn copies of Audio CDs for students or teachers Create practice CD for subs (May need to hook your computer up to speaker for playback)

8 Smartboard Has the ability to create different screens like fingering charts, musical reading charts, objective, etc Can be used with a projector ( you don’t need to have an actual smartboard) Import pictures to demonstrate positions (you can use a smartphone, digital camera, or even your computer’s photo booth app to take pictures) You can link sounds to your screen and play back tracks without changing screens/applications. If you don’t want to use Smartboard, you could use PowerPoint or Word to show your procedures, objectives, etc Smartboard sharing

9 Finale Notepad On our computers Allows teachers to input simple parts Create worksheets Does not transpose, not full Finale

10 Class Dojo Available on the web and as an app Used for classroom management/behavior Families can access it online to track behavior Can save student reports as PDFs and can be printed class dojo website

11 Using the Internet Look up information on Music History, Composers, Countries, anything that will enrich your lesson and teaching Show a video to help you teach evaluation standard. YouTube- login= tempYT password= YT@td3! Wireless connection- TD_3 password is TempeschoolS Blendspace

16 In closing…. Baby steps- you don’t have to do everything all at once. If one of these ideas sounds interesting or useful, give it a try! It should enhance your teaching, not get in your way. Ask your computer lab tech for help acquiring projectors, etc. It doesn’t hurt to ask, you might get lucky! If you ever have questions, you can ask for my help.
