Everyday you will be given some Math words to define. You will use your MATH JOURNAL to define them. Copy down the words then write down the definition to each word.

Let’s begin with THE TABLE OF CONTENTS.

Copy down the vocabulary words and the definitions that follow.

8/24/2011 1 MATH VOCABULARY place value – the value determined by the position of a digit in a number. decimal – part of a whole number. even – an even number can be divided into two equal groups. You only have to check the last digit to tell if a number is even. 0, 2, 4, 6, and 8 are all even numbers.

Turn to the INDEX portion of your MATH JOURNAL.

Place value starts with “P”. So find “P” in your INDEX.

If you are looking for an address, being able to order and compare numbers helps you not get lost If you want to buy a video game, being able to order and compare numbers helps you figure out if you have enough money. I understand this is a lot to take in but I have faith you will get the hang of it. I expect everyone to be able to do this all on their own by the end of September.

This is a very important activity. Your MATH JOURNAL is a very important tool. You will use your MATH JOURNAL to help you better understand MATH. DO NOT MISPLACE IT.
