3 HIGH IMPACT PRACTICES COLLABORATION WITH PEERS TO DESIGN IDEAL SCHOOL. FREQUENT FEEDBACK AND SUPPORT FROM PROFESSOR PURPOSEFUL TASKS RELATED TO REAL LIFE EXPERIENCES. BRAINSTORMING AND RESEARCHING MIDDLE LEVEL BEST PRACTICE. PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE IN MIDDLE LEVEL SCHOOLS.

4 THE ASSIGNMENT DESIGN AN IDEAL MIDDLE LEVEL SCHOOL USING YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF YOUNG ADOLESCENTS AND MIDDLE LEVEL PHILOSOPHY. THE SCHOOL MUST REFLECT ACCURATE MIDDLE LEVEL PHILOSOPHY, RESEARCH, THEORY, AND BEST PRACTICE.

5 OBJECTIVES 1) DEMONSTRATE AN UNDERSTANDING OF MAJOR CONCEPTS, PRINCIPLES, THEORIES, AND RESEARCH RELATED TO YOUNG ADOLESCENT DEVELOPMENT, AND PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES THAT SUPPORT STUDENT DEVELOPMENT AND LEARNING (AMLE 2) 2) DEMONSTRATE AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE MAJOR CONCEPTS, PRINCIPLES, THEORIES, AND RESEARCH UNDERLYING THE PHILOSOPHICAL FOUNDATIONS OF DEVELOPMENTALLY RESPONSIVE MIDDLE LEVEL PROGRAMS AND SCHOOLS, AND WORK SUCCESSFULLY WITHIN THESE ORGANIZATIONAL COMPONENTS (AMLE 3). 3) DEMONSTRATE AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE COMPLEXITY OF TEACHING YOUNG ADOLESCENTS AND ENGAGE IN PRACTICES AND BEHAVIORS THAT DEVELOP THEIR COMPETENCE AS PROFESSIONALS. (AMLE 5).

6 THE ASSIGNMENT STUDENTS WORK TOGETHER IN GROUPS TO DESIGN AN IDEAL MIDDLE LEVEL SCHOOL. THIS IS THE CULMINATING PROJECT AT THE END OF PRACTICUM 1. MIDDLE LEVEL PHILOSOPHY AND PRACTICE IS COVERED IN TWO COURSES, THE ADOLESCENT LEARNER AND THE MIDDLE LEVEL LEARNING COMMUNITY (PRACTICUM 1). THE IDEAL MIDDLE LEVEL SCHOOL IS PRESENTED TO THE CLASS ON THE FINAL CLASS DAY.
