2 The ocean covers more than 2/3 of the earth. All humans, animals, and plants need the earth’s water. Under water animals have homes and food just like we do. A person who studies ocean life is called a marine biologist. We are going to pretend we are marine biologists and learn more about the ocean and what lives there. Why is it important to learn about Sea Animals? NEXT

3 SHARK NEXT What do sharks look like? Sharks have tough skin that gray. The have tails that face up and pointed fins. Sharks have a very big mouth with a lot of sharp teeth. Where do sharks live? Sharks live wherever they can find food, but they don’t like to stay in shallow water. Most sharks live in salt water. Sharks swim freely in the water because they do not have many enemies. What do sharks eat? Most sharks eat meat. They will eat fish, small sharks, dolphins, and sea lions. They have a very goof sense of smell and can see well in the water at night.

4 KILLER WHALE (ORCA) What do killer whales look like? The killer whale is the largest member of the dolphin family. They have long, round bodies with large fins at the middle of their backs. They have black bodies with white patches behind their eyes. Where do Killer Whales live? They can be found all over from polar regions to the Equator in cold water. What do they eat? They eat mammals such as seals, sea lions, and even whales. They have teeth that can be four inches long. Killer whales hunt in groups up to 40 whales. Watch the video on the right to learn more! 5 CLOWN FISH NEXT What do clown fish look like? The clown fish is bright orange with white stripes. Clown fish are between two and five inches long. Where do clown fish live? Clown fish live on the ocean floor. They are found in the warm waters of the Pacific Ocean, the Red Sea, the Indian Ocean and Australia's Great Barrier Reef. What do clownfish eat? 6 SEA HORSE NEXT What do Seahorses look like? Seahorses are fish. They live in water and have gills. They have fins on their sides and a small fin on the back of their body. They have a long snake-like tail. They have long tube mouths. What do Seahorses eat? Seahorses eat small shrimp. An adult eats 30-50 times a day and baby seahorses eat 3000 pieces of food per day. Where do Seahorses live? Seahorses live in shallow areas with tall grass. In winter they move into deeper waters because of the rough weather. Fact Seahorses can change color very quickly and match anything around them. They have even been known to turn bright red to look like floating trash.

7 SEA TURTLE What do sea turtles look like? Sea turtles have a long shell. Their colors can be olive-green, yellow, or reddish-brown. They have flippers that help them with swimming. Where do they live? Sea turtles live in almost every ocean in the world and lay on tropical beaches. They travel long distances to eat and often crossing entire oceans. What do they eat? Sea turtles eat sea grasses, jellyfish, and soft-bodied animals. They sometimes eat crabs, sponges, and clams. Their size can range from 80-100 pound to 1,000 pounds. NEXT
