4. E-book Capabilities An electronic book is typically delivered over a computer network. E-book capabilities vary by vendor, but most offer hyperlink navigation and keyword searching within the text. 5. To find books by title, click on the appropriate Books collection alphabetical letter. Note that there is a View complete list of books option although this drop down menu does not have hypertext links to the specific titles. You will need to go back to the Books collection A-Z list to open any e-books.

6. We have opened the A list from the Books collection list. Note that the list includes non health- related titles. You will need time to locate the titles that will be of use to you.

7. We will look at some of the Taylor & Francis e-books. The first way to access these titles is via the Books collection A-Z list. We have opened the Books collection B Accessible Content list and identified two titles.

8. A second option is, via the Publishers list, and open Taylor & Francis. Displayed is the list of Accessible Content journals and e-books from this publish and, on this page, there are 7 book titles noted. We will open Behavior, Health and Aging. When a publisher grants access to your institution, this is a useful way of identifying what e-books are available.

9. Now displayed is the initial page of the Behavior, Health and Aging that includes the citation information for the book. We will click on the green Access icon.

10. We will click on the Quick access option.

11. Now opened is the Quick Access option. Note the print, zoom, full screen and display page options.

12. We now will click on the Download a copy option.

13. Now displayed is the title page to the downloaded PDF version of the book. Note the zoom, save and print options in Chrome. These may be displayed differently in other browsers.

14. The Contents page now is displayed. Note that this PDF version does not contain any hypertext links.

15. Via the A listing in the Books collection A-Z drop down menus, we have opened the American Psychiatric Publishing Textbook of Psychiatry, 5 th edition (2008), one of the psychiatry related e-books from this publisher. You also can access these titles by opening the Publishers list and clicking on American Psychiatric Publishing - to display the Accessible Content material. Note that the chapters also have the Download PowerPoint Slideshow option.

16. We have displayed Chapter 3.The Role of Psychiatric Measures in Assessment and Treatment. Note that you can access the sections of this chapter by clicking on the links in the left-column frame.

17. We have displayed the Clinical Decision Tree, Chapter 3. Note the options to Email a link, Bookmark This and either Print Section or Print Chapter. You also can save the specific text as an html document. Three Publishers have been highlighted and several others also have offered access to their books.

19. Now opened is the O list from the Books collection A- Z list. Similar to the Journal Collection, the format is divided into Accessible Content (the default) and All Items options. This example is for an institution where all titles are included in the publishers’ offer. Note the two titles from Oxford University Press.

20. We now have opened is the O list from the Books collection A-Z list - for an institution where many titles are not included in the publishers’ offer. Note that there are only 7 items (2 publishers) in the Accessible Content list. In the All Items display option, most of the titles will have the white box with the exclamation point. Note: Oxford has granted access to most HINARI institutions.

21. The Oxford Textbook of Medicine is one of the foremost international textbooks of internal medicine. It provides practical guidance on the clinical management and prevention of disease, with in- depth coverage of the traditional specialty areas. Scroll down this page to the ‘expandable’ table of contents that details the contents of each topic.

22. By scrolling down the initial page, the Contents page now is displayed. We will open Chapter 8 (Sexually Transmitted Diseases). Note the list of Subjects(s) in Oxford Medicine.
