1 6 th Grade Art FALL LEAVES IN WATERCOLOR

2  Leaves are little food factories!  Cycle of the Leaf:  Take water from the ground  Take Carbon Dioxide from the air  Sunlight: water + Carbon Dioxide= Oxygen and sugar  Sugar becomes food for leaf, Oxygen becomes “food” for us!  This cycle is called photosynthesis WHAT ARE LEAVES ALL ABOUT?

3  A chemical called chlorophyll helps photosynthesis happen  This gives the leaves their green color in the summer! GREEN THUMB

4  In the autumn, the nights become longer so the leaves get less sunlight  This slowly stops the creation of Chlorophyll  The yellows, reds, and oranges then come out to shine! WHY DO LEAVES TURN COLORS IN THE FALL?
