12 3/6/13 106 Guided Question There are 24 hours in a day and 365 days in a year. Which is the best estimate of the number of hours in a year? A 12,000 hours B 8,000 hours C 390 hours D 380 hours

13 This is an ESTIMATION (ROUNDING) question. You need to round each number to its highest place value. The highest place value for 24 is the TENS PLACE, so 24 rounds to 20. The highest place value for 365 is the You need to MULTIPLY (x) 400 and 20. Ignore all the zeros and just multiply (x) 4 and 2. 4 x 2 = 8. Then count all the zeros in the problem. There are 3 365400 zeros. Put 3 zeros on the end of 8 to make it 8,000. 8,000 is your answer. 2420 HUNDREDS PLACE, so 365 rounds to 400.

14 The Answer is 8,000 400 x 20 = think 4 x 2 = 8 so 4 0 0 x 2 0 = 8, 0 0 0
