2. 3 main objectives for this meeting: Establish a community of practice - build trust - learn from each other - greater clarity from CO on funding Identify a framework for collective fundraising for WLE - are there opportunities for joint fundraising? - what are the conditions for us to work together for WLE fundraising? Discuss communication and marketing - need success stories - what impacts is WLE delivering?

3. Community of practice – an informal network for sharing and learning Principles: No coordinator – collegial list Try to share where there is clear win-win No-one gets offended if we say ‘no’ Open the community to fundraisers in other centres At some point in 2014, check whether this is working/useful Objectives Share documents Share procedures, policies, etc Share information on events, opportunities Reach out to other fundraisers for advice, question, etc

4. Framework for collective fundraising Positive working dynamic – Building trust and transparency – Openness of lead centre – Good working relationships – both fundraisers and researchers Clearly defined activity with start and end date – Evaluate at end to see what worked and did not work Benefits outweigh costs (is the investment worth it?) – Financial (threshold amount) – Non-financial benefits as well Clear understanding/expectations of contribution of each partner/centre – ToRs of roles and responsibilities upfront – “Pre-teaming agreement” Clear advantage of working as a group – Across discipline and regions – Does working together increase the chances of success Focus on, and prioritise strategic areas/needs of WLE and at the same time remain opportunistic
