Similar to fencing Competition for men, women, boys, and girls

Katana is Japanese word for sword, but kendo sword is called Shinai Helmet is called men Gloves called kote Breastplate called do Waist protected by tare Under Bogu is a jacket, hakama, and towel wrapped around head

4 Kyudo Meaning: “The Way of the Bow” Based on Kyujutsu (art of archery)
Used bows in wars, now in competition Can be men and women

5 Kyudo equipment Bow is called The Yumi (over 2 meters long) Made of bamboo, wood and leather Arrow called Ya. Made w/ bamboo Fletchings of Ya made of hawk or eagle feathers Glove for arrow holding hand called Yugake (made of deerskin)
