4. Dilma Vana Dilma Vana is the 36 th president of Brazil. She is the first female president of Brazil. She was born December 14 th, 1947. She has been the president since January 1 st, 2011. She is still in office today.

5. Olympics Brazil first joined the Summer Olympics in 1920. They also joined the Winter Olympics in 1992. They have won 108 medals in total, but not won any medals in the Winter Olympics. They won the most part of their medals in volleyball, sailing, and judo. 2012 was the year with more medals 17, and in 2004 the had 5 gold.

6. Geography Most of Brazil territory lies between 200 and 800 mi in elevation. The main upland area occupies most of the southern part of the country. It is an enormous block of geologically ancient rocks that rise.

7. Rio de Janeiro Rio de Janeiro, or just Rio, is the capital city. Rio de Janeiro is the second largest city of Brazil. Rio has more than 6.3 million people within the city proper making it the 6 th largest city in the Americas and 26 th in the world. Rio was first founded in 1565, by the Portuguese.

8. Football Football, or as we call it “soccer”, is one of the most popular sports in Brazil. The Brazilian national football team has won the FIFA World Cup tournament a record of five times in 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994, and 2002.

9. Rio disaster Rio of 2010: There was a terrible flood and mud slide. It affected all of Brazil. 212 people died; 161 people were injured. 15,000 people were homeless from mudslides. It was a tragedy.
