6 www.sentrain.net Understanding section The objectives of this section are to: ð Be able to recognise and describe the main features of motor learning difficulties ð Understand definitions of dyspraxia and developmental coordination disorder ð Experience what it may feel like to have these difficulties ð Understand how the condition might affect children

7 www.sentrain.net Assessment section The objectives of this section are to: ð Introduce the main types and purposes of assessment ð Describe the role of professionals in assessment ð Describe the normal process of motor skills development ð Outline the difficulties which may arise ð Provide a sample assessment profile and record form

8 www.sentrain.net Goal setting Example SMART goal: To assist child A to form letters appropriately, including a reduction in the size of his handwriting

9 www.sentrain.net Intervention section The objectives of this section are to: ð Describe the process of motor skill acquisition ð Introduce a range of techniques for teaching motor skills ð Introduce a variety of specific interventions ð Raise awareness of factors which may need to be taken into account in planning an intervention

10 www.sentrain.net Intervention setting Example interventions: ð Get a selection of pencil grips for child A to try ð To use a highlighter pen along the line to show where the small letters should rest ð Do Hand and finger warm-up sessions prior to a writing task, & speak to teacher to see if this could be a whole class activity ð Try move 'n' sit cushion ð Practice good sitting position, and use a posture card as a reminder

11 www.sentrain.net Case studies To provide examples of a range of learners illustrating: ð assessed needs of the individual ð interventions which have been put in place ð learner’s response to the interventions and progress made

12 www.sentrain.net Course Forums ð Tutors and students can communicate through online discussions ð You will introduce yourselves on the Forums today Star task-what does it feel like? Try this activity yourself. Share with the group the impact this had on your stress levels, you muscles, your attention, and your self esteem. I had a similar reaction to the lady in the video. I was rather ashamed of my effort-it was rubbish! Part of me wanted to give up, another part of me wanted to start again. I think I felt I could get better if I had the motivation and energy to keep trying, or if someone encouraged me to have another go.

13 www.sentrain.net Accreditation To pass the course you need to: ð Read all the course content ð Complete 2 quizzes ð Take part a minimum number of forum discussions ð Write 3 goals ð Write 3 interventions ð Attend face to face sessions as arranged by your tutor ð Complete the post course evaluation ð 90 days after you have finished the course (and passed) complete the goal attainment scaling
