5 Art Nouveau Art Nouveau architecture was popular in Riga in 19th and 20th century. There are about 800 buildings made in this style. The historycal centre of Riga is included in the UNESCO World Heritage site because of it’s unique architecture.

10 Famous opera singers Elīna Garanča – opera mezzo – soprano singer. Her international breakthrough came in 2003 at the Salzburger Festspiele when she sang Annio by Mozart. Kristīne Opolais – soprano singer. Has worked as a solist in Munich, Berlin, Milan, Vienna operas. Inese Galante – soprano singer. Her ‘’Debut’’ album in 1995 started spreading worldwide interest.

12 Folk music Traditional Latvian music is often set to traditional poetry called dainas. Songs are played on various traditional instruments, the most important of them is kokle. More than 1.2 million texts and 30,000 melodies of folk songs have been identified

13 Song and dance festival One of the largest amateur choral events in the world and an important event in Latvian culture and social life. The Latvian Song and Dance Festival has been held since 1873, normally every five years. Approximately 30,000 performers all together participate in the event.

14 Popular music Brainstorm - is a Latvian pop/rock band. The band became popular internationally in 2000, when they finished third in the Eurovision Song Contest 2000. Brainstorm has given concert in Sochi Olympic games. Raimonds Pauls - is a Latvian composer and piano player who is well - known in Latvia.

15 Imants Kalniņš – is one of the most important composers in the history of Latvian music. Zigmars Liepins – Latvian composer who wrote music for famous Latvian rock opera ’’Lāčplēsis’’.

16 Classical music Vestard Shimkus – famous pianist in Latvia. Jazeps Vitols - he established the first Latvian Conservatory of Music, which was later renamed the Jazeps Vitols Latvian Academy of Music. Emils Darzins was a Latvian composer, conductor and music critic.

17 Sinfonietta Riga – won the ’’Grammy’’ music award in year 2013. Youth choir ’’Balsis’’. Repertory includes Renaissance and nowadays music, a capella songs and performances with orchestra.
