2 Central New York – 5 county region Formally established in 1966 through Regional Planning and Development Board Proximity to the intersection of Interstates 81 and 90 Commutation patterns link all five counties to the Syracuse MSA Shared history, demographics, natural resources, and business challenges Significant concentrations of colleges and universities

3 Issues facing CNY region 40-50% eligible to retire by 2010 Feb 2007 CNY labor force 1.1% less than one year ago In 2004, population in the 20-34 age range fell 27.2% in Onondaga County 70% of future jobs will require beyond HS education NYS reported 67% graduation rates in 2004; 50% of African Americans, and 15% of Hispanic students in the upstate urban cohort graduated In CNY the availability of a skilled workforce is a deciding factor in business attraction It’s all about talent…
