FEEDBACK SYSTEM – Temperature Jordan Henderson, Stefan moraru, Terence Felix and Elijah vittaca

Feedback system There is a positive and negative feedback system. Negative feedback is a process that happens when your systems need to slow down or completely stop a process that is happening. Positive feedback is the opposite of negative feedback because it encourages the action of a system. In simpler terms the negative feedback tends to slow down a process, while the positive feedback tends to accelerate it

How temperature works The temperature for the human body is about 37 degrees. The chemical reactions in the cells of the human body work best at this temperature. Most of the heat needed to maintain the temperature is generated during respiration of glucose in the body cell. Also most of the body’s heat loss is by radiation from the skin surface and by evaporation of sweat from the skin. During exercise the muscles in our body create heat, which increases the temperature of blood that is detected by the brain. A receptor in the brain just above the pituitary gland sends out nerve impulses to the skin and sweat glands. The sweat glands are activated to reduce the temperature. The hotter, the body temperature gets, the more a person sweats, the more a person sweats the lower, body temperature goes because of the sweat cooling the skin. Also, going the other way, the colder a person gets, the more they shiver. The more they shiver, the more their body warms up. This is how are body temperature is maintained.

What happens when the temperature goes wrong? In certain situations, the body may fail to shield us from the weather conditions and the feedback system won’t work properly. At this point, being in the cold will affect you very badly. If you are in the cold for too long, and your body’s feedback system may not work and hypothermia may occur. Hypothermia is when when the body's temperature falls below 35°C. When you get a fever, your body temperature goes up a few degrees, making you hot. With hypothermia, it cools off a few degrees, making you cold.If your body temperature is too low, your body may not function properly. Some situations that can cause the body for hypothermia are long exposure to cold conditions, being in cold water for a long time and spending too much time in wet clothes. Mild hypothermia is about 32–35°C body temperature which is usually easy to treat. However, the risk of death increases as the body temperature drops below 32C. If the body temperature is less than 28C, the condition is life threatening without immediate medical attention. Some of the symptoms of hypothermia are Feeling cold Cool, pale skin Shivering Slurred speech, speech difficulty Slowed breathing Dizziness

What happens to restore the temperature to normal Don’t massage or rub the person –Keep them still or they risk a heart attack. Move the person out of the cold Remove wet clothing Try to warm the person – but do not apply direct heat. Share body heat Do not leave the person alone Keep checking if there breathing properly Don’t give up on them thinking they’re dead. Call triple zero Begin CPR immediately if the person shows no signs of life and is not breathing normally.
