12 Defining Results  Reactive or Preliminary Positive – the finding of a rapid HIV test  Positive - a laboratory confirmed reactive result.  Negative – the finding of a rapid HIV test Mod 8 (4 of 7)

13 Negative Result A negative result is:  The finding of a laboratory test  Important health information A negative result means:  Antibodies to HIV were not detected  Does NOT necessarily mean a person does not have HIV Results and Counseling Mod 8 (5 of 7)

36 Final Role Plays  Not looking for perfection, but for good beginner counselor skills  We are looking for use of client-centered counseling skills, use of do’s and don’ts, and incorporation of our feedback  Observations are cumulative Mod 14 (2 of 3)

37 Instructions  Begin session after sample has been taken,  “So, what brings you in for testing today?”, or “How’s your finger?”  Counsel for 12 minutes (listen for trainer prompts)  Leave the room for 2 minutes for results  Give results and counsel - 5 minutes (listen for trainer prompts)  Client roles – be an EASY client!
