Insure: To make certain
Domestic: Done in your own country.
Tranquility: Being calm and quiet - peaceful.
The Constitution was written to make certain that our country is a peaceful place to live.

6. Provide for the common defense
Common: for everyone.
Defense: “I’ve got your back.” “You are safe with me.”
The Constitution was written so that everyone could know they were safe.

7. Promote the general welfare
Promote: to make important.
Welfare: The things that people need to stay healthy and safe.
The Constitution was written so that the United States could provide what people need to be healthy and safe.

8. and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity,
Liberty: To be free to make your own decisions.
Posterity: All the people who are alive now, and who will be born later.
The Constitution was written by people who wanted to be free to make their own decisions, and wanted all people now and later to be free as well.

9. do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
Ordain: Make.
Establish: To make something permanent.
The Constitution of the United States was written to make the rules of the country permanent.
