What is Waby? Parenting and care giving to children is a common universal experience, and baby monitoring and its hassles, likewise a similar common universal problem. Given the increasingly busy schedules of modern day dual-incoming earning parents where both parents are out or may be distracted by pressing work even when at home, or even of the increasing number of single parent homes, it is of great common concern to find ways to reduce the hassle and stress felt by these parents, easing the process of parenting as a whole. And that is what Waby has been made for. MIMO. A body suit that tracks the baby’s temperature, breathing and sleep patterns, activeness and keeps the care takers updated through a smartphone app. Multi-functionality Waterproof What if the user does not own a smartphone? Ease of use – calibration based on external conditions SIKKER. A baby monitoring bracelet which is attached to both the caretaker and the baby. It takes temperature and pulse readings and updates the caretaker. The use of a bracelet as the connecting device. The wrist is not the best place to measure temperature. ANGELCARE MONITOR SYSTEM. Sensor pads attached to the mattress of the baby’s cot that monitor’s the baby’s movement. Alarm will be triggered if the baby is motionless for more than 20 seconds. Highly Accurate due to high surface area. What if the baby falls asleep elsewhere? (Eg: Sofa) Sensor Pad only can be used with certain mattresses. How does Waby work? Programmed in Arduino, this smart system is fully automated and works with the help of sensors. Each sensor is connected to safety devices and the complements. The Waby Smartphone App that updates you with live information about your baby’s well being. Features include live feeds as well as graphs that shows you monthly overviews. Complements to Waby These accessories will help Waby seamlessly integrate with your everyday routine. While these products have been created to ease your parenting tasks, they WILL NOT be 100% responsible for your baby’s safety and health. Features Bracelets will also be issued for a caretaker and the baby. This bracelet will aid in sending notification and keeping the caretaker informed at all times. The bracelet is a distinctive feature as it does not require the user to have any prior knowledge to using smartphones and it also assists in measuring the temperature of the baby. Why Waby? “Tedious, time-consuming, and energy draining,” – These are the kinds of experiences associated with baby monitoring. Aiming to turn this negative experience into a more positive one for swamped, busy parents, our smart-home baby-monitoring system aims to be a comprehensive passive system that allows parents to monitor the general well-being of their children with a greater peace of mind; even if they let their toddlers wander around the house unattended. Worry less about knives, balconies and hazardous items, as Waby will automatically close and lock off danger zones for your child while you carry on with your daily activities in other areas of the house. Worried about not being notified about your child’s whereabouts if you were to leave them alone for awhile and they wander off? Fear not! Waby comes along with supplementary systems to make sure that you are virtually connected to your baby at all times. Through the baby monitoring app downloaded through your smartphone. Waby will send you notifications and location updates to your phone via the baby monitoring app. All you need to do is open your baby-monitoring app, and all will be made clear. Motion Sensors With the recent increase in the cases of Shaken Baby Syndrome, be warned when the baby is overly shaken. Pulse Reader Monitor your baby’s heart rate as this sensor sends signals Directly to your smart phones. In case of any abnormal changes, you’ll be notified immediately. What comes with Waby? 1) A bracelet for your baby with an in built motion sensor, frequency detector and RFID reader. 2) A baby suit made of organic cotton that monitors the temperature of the baby. A suggestion about the placement of safety doors and sensors has been included in the prototype. Inspirations Precedent research helped us find various designs that had great potential but it all lacked that little something which makes it complete. The strengths and weaknesses behind each invention were analysed in the process of coming up with a more comprehensive system. Temperature Monitoring Your baby’s temperature will be monitored at regular intervals. Any abnormal changes in temperature will be notified to you and recorded in the app for future references. Frequency Detector Babies often cry and we never know why. This detector will check the frequency of the baby’s wailings and give possible reasons as to what the trigger could be. RFID Track your baby’s location around the house and ensure that he/she does not enter any of the danger zones. Danger zones will be closed when a baby approaches one and the caretaker will be informed.
