Research into the demographics of stamp collecting individuals Defining your philatelic audience.

Demographics Age range Average age: 65 Many of the collectors in this age range started between the ages of 8 and 10 Gender breakdown Male: 89% Female: 11%

Demographics Education and experience 73% of stamp collectors are university graduates (compared to 27% of general population). 53% of stamp collectors are retired. 31% are still in full-time employment.

Proposal The average age of a computer user is 28 years of age. Older people are generally less experienced with using computers and the Internet. Because of this, we propose a physical newsletter in order to achieve the maximum audience reach.

Proposal Potential sections of the newsletter: – information on new stamp releases; – profiles of famous stamp designers; – local events (auctions, club meetings, etc.); – subscription information (renew, unsubscribe).

Proposal Content for the newsletter would primarily be provided by members of the society. The newsletter only requires a minimal staff with only a few permanent positions – an editor to coordinate the team and compose the final newsletter – staff writers for regular columns – and someone to compile information regarding sales, events, etc.

Proposal There is also the potential for a classifieds section, which would allow members to organise the sale or trade of stamps with other members of the society. This encourages interaction between society members, as well as providing a basis for interaction and interest in the newsletter for stamp collectors.
