Charles Dickens (1833–1870) was a very popular writer who prospered in queen Victoria’s era. Many of his stories are about children, and the hard lives of poor people in those days. His writing style is florid and poetic, with a strong comic touch. His satires of British aristocratic snobbery are very popular.
