Surface Area of Rectangular Prisms 1.How many outside surfaces does a rectangular prism have? 2.What shape are each of the faces? The six rectangular sides of the prism are shown separately. w l w l l h l h h w h w

The surface area, SA, of a right rectangular prism is determined by the formula: SA = 2 l w + 2 l h + 2wh Where l represents the length, w represents the width, and h represents the height of the prism. You can always sketch the faces to look at each side, rather than use the formula. Remember, the area formula for a rectangle is A = bh. Since you have six faces you must add them together. Surface area will be in square units.

Find the surface area of the rectangular prism. 3 mm 10 mm 2 mm

Find the surface area of the rectangular prism. 10 cm 21 cm 5 mm
