 Citizens of the European Union and the EEA planning to stay longer than three months in Iceland, need a residence permit. EU and EEA citizens do not need a special work permit, only a residence permit, when coming to Iceland.  In Belgium you need both permits before you can apply for a visa

You have to apply for (kennitala), an Icelandic ID number. This ID number is necessary for various practical matters such as opening a bank account, getting a tax card, etc. In Belgium you have to bring a national passport ID which is still valid for the upcoming 12 months to get a visa.

 European students must bring a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) with them. The EHIC card proves that you are entitled to health insurance at home.  If you have to see a doctor, you must present the EHIC and your passport  When visiting a doctor, you are advised to bring your insurance card, a valid passport and your ID number (kennitala). In order to pay the lower amount, you have to visit your local Health Care Clinic.

 In Belgium you need to get a certificate of good health before you get permission to stay. You must receive this certificate by a doctor who is officially registered by the Belgian Embassy or Consul. You don´t need to go to this doctor if you have a legal labourcard which you can show upon arrival

 European Employment Services(EURES)  EURES is a cooperation of the job and dissemination of work between the countries of the European Economic Area (EEA) and is run by Board EEA.  EURES aims to facilitate workers to move between the EEA countries and thus contribute to the balance between supply and demand within the region.  In Belgium you still need a legal labour card which you get from your employer before going out working.

 The deadline for international students (other than exchange students) to apply for undergraduate and graduate studies is 1st February 2011 (for the 2011-2012 academic year).  In general, teaching at the University of Iceland is in Icelandic  The annual registration fee for the University of Iceland is currently ISK 45,000  http://www.hi.is/files/How_to_Apply_for_a_stude nt_permit_2010-2011_minni.pdf http://www.hi.is/files/How_to_Apply_for_a_stude nt_permit_2010-2011_minni.pdf

 To be able to study in Belgium you need to have a legal visa which you can show when applying at a University. So when you´re coming to Belgium you should apply before arrival because this procedure takes a long time. When you´re under 18 you must be able to show a signed certificate from your parents who grant you permission to live abroad.  The annual registration fee for the University is about € 560 (= ISK 84000)
