2. Preserving the Past Dear Friends: The chimes in the courthouse are silent. But because of the interest of a group of citizens in Seward county, they may find a voice. That voice has historical significance not only to Seward County, but as one of only four municipal systems left in existence, there is significance around the world. Please be part of the effort to raise funds for not only the restoration of the chimes, but also repair of the four courthouse clocks. 3. Preserving the Past Preservation Outline History The chimes were given to Seward County by H.T. and Dorothy Jones in December of 1933. They played in the Seward square until the late 1980’s, when the mechanism within this 20 note chime system was silenced.

4. Preserving the Past Timeline The county commissioners have contracted with The Verdin Company, an Illinois Chime Company that specializes in replacing strikers and clocks with current technology while maintaining the original sounds of the chimes. The project is slated for completion by July 4, 2005.
