1 STARTER ACTIVITY Fitness Priorities? For the athlete on your table, rank the 10 components of fitness in order of importance Ensure you work together to discuss answers – some are easier to place than others!

3 SECTION 1 EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY DME (Mr Endersbee) 4 lessons per cycle Topics: Health and Fitness, Nutrition, Lung Function, Blood Transport, Heart Function, Movement

4 SECTION 4 APPLICATION OF HEALTH & FITNESS NS (Mr Stone) 2 lessons per cycle Topics: Principles of Training, Fitness Testing, Training Methods, Teaching Styles

5 AS PE: INTRODUCTION 40% Practical 2 physical activities in a choice of roles (e.g. player, coach, official etc). 60% Theory 2 hour exam; 7 questions Questions 1&2: Physiology (DME) Questions 3&4: Psychology (DGV) Questions 5&6: Socio/Cultural/Historical (CSC) Question 7: Fitness & Teaching Styles (NS) Questions 1-6 broken down to 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 mark qs. Question 7 = 12 marks (2 x 6marks)

6 AS PE – A BIG STEP UP FROM GCSE/BTEC WHAT’S THE SAME AS GCSE? HIGH(ER) WORK ETHIC EXPECTED END OF TERM EXAMS – MIMICS REAL EXAM REGULAR HOMEWORK/REVISION REGULAR APPLICATION TO EXAM QUESTIONS SOME OVERLAP OF TOPICS EXPECTATION TO KEEP FOLDERS IN ORDER WHAT’S DIFFERENT FROM GCSE? EXAM STRUCTURE: 7 QUESTIONS (4 SECTIONS). COURSE/EXAM SECTIONS SPLIT (A&P = DME, PSY = DGV, SOC = CSC, Q7 = NS) DEEPER PHYSIOLOGICAL UNDERSTANDING REQUIRED. INCREASED WILLINGNESS TO LEARN IN OWN TIME MANY NEW TOPICS NOT COVERED AT GCSE. KEEP AN UP TO DATE GLOSSARY /KEY TERMS/REVISION NOTES – HELPS WITH REVISION

10 SECTION 3 SOCIO-CULTURAL & HISTORICAL CSC (Mr Crane) 2 lessons per cycle Topics: Physical Activity, Leisure Provision, History of Sport and PE, Equal Opportunities

11 PRACTICAL DGV (Mr Venables) & CSC (Mr Crane) 0 lessons per cycle – own time (and/or Senior Games) Assessment: 2 sports, any role (performer, official, coach)
