3. 3 Purpose of this Session Participants will examine a structure to support close reading instruction and apply a tool to enact a structure in their buildings.

Activity Discuss how to create collaborative planning time that allows teachers to become adept at using planned interventions.  Group 1: What needs to be in place to allow for collaborative planning time?  Group 2: What should teachers be doing during this time?  Group 3: What will they need to plan interventions? Take notes on a flip chart. Rotate to next group when cued.  Note-taker/facilitator stays with original group to share findings and allow for more agreement/additions/discussion.  Share out as a whole group. 5

6. Tools for Supporting Professional Learning Using the tool, examine lesson 11.1.1 Lesson 5 to determine how to support teachers to incorporate interventions when implementing a lesson on close reading. 6

7. Creating Effective Teacher Collaboration How do we create a systematic process for responding to students who don’t learn? We must answer the questions:  So what?  What, if anything, are we prepared to do differently? 7
