2  The Commonwealth of Nations is an intergovernmental organisation of 54 independent member states. All members share historical ties with the UK. His objective is the political and economic cooperation, and since 1950 their membership not implies belonging to the British crown.

3 INDIA

4 Before the arrival of British company, India was in very bad conditions, ruled by Jahangir (governant of the Mogol Empire). India was a territory rich in natural resources, mostly spices, and it was the main reason of the arrivals of some european companies. The monopoly of Portugal in Asia, brought a conflict against India. In 1510, Portugal conquered Goa (important city because of the quality of the species). British people arrived at Madras in 1639 to commerciate with Indian people. Jahangir (governant of the Mogol empire) allowed them to explotate some areas of his territory. They got used to the Indian costumes and culture. These knowledge gave to british company some advantages over others Europeans. Jahangir

5 During the british dominion, Indian people were treated as slaves. Step by step, the situation improved. In XIX Century, provincial parties were created, formed only by Indian people. In 1920, K. Ghandi formed a liberating movement with the objective of liberalising India. That movement got his objective peacefully in 1947.

6 BEFOREAFTER The politicy in India was divided in twelve sijis kingdoms, each one with their own laws Its policy was a protectorate under the total dominion of the british parliament. Economy was basically agricultural. Economy was based in cotton, tobacco and mining explotation. Most part of the population was poor, there was a high economic slope. Population was poor and treated as slaves. British people held all the power. Indian people maintained its own cultura during 4000 years, being influenced by persian, greeks, chineses, mongolians,timurids, mughals… Indian people maintained its own culture but british people introduced necessarily its cultura that nowadays it is maintained.

7 -In 1918 India obtained a little independency from Great Britain, but the Indians wanted to be absolutly independent. -During the First World War, Great Britain give more independece to India to asegurate its help in the war. -In 1947, India obtained the whole independence from England. -The Prime Minister of Great Britain hopes the development of a successful relationship with a nation which has an economy which raises almost 10% per year, and which offers a huge potential to trade and investments.
