Windows 10 (preview) & Microsoft Office 2016 (preview)

2 To Release 29 July, 2015 Windows 10 is so familiar and easy to use, you’ll feel like an expert. The Start Menu is back in an expanded form, plus we’ll bring over your pinned apps and favorites so they’re ready and waiting for you. It starts up and resumes fast, has more built-in security to help keep you safe, and is designed to work with software and hardware you already have. This combines the strengths of Windows 8 with Windows 7.Windows Insider

3 Windows Insider Program
Millions of people are already using Windows 10 (including me) The Windows Insider Program is a global community of fans who love Windows and want to help make it better. Insiders see the operating system in its earliest stages, and play a role in shaping it. Their feedback has contributed to the best Windows ever.

4 New web browser Windows 10 comes with Microsoft Edge, an all-new browser that’s built to give you a better web experience. Write or type notes directly on webpages and share them with others, read online articles free of distraction, and save your favorite reads for later access. And with Cortana2 enabled, you get instant access to key actions—like making reservations or reading reviews—without leaving the page you’re on. (Internet Explorer is also included with Windows 10)

5 Virtual Desktops Multi-doing helps you get to “done“ faster
Easily snap up to four apps in place and see all open tasks in a single view. You can even create virtual desktops when you need more space or want to group things by project. (Apps here are the Windows 8 type “tiled” apps – 10 still also supports traditional Windows Desktop apps)

6 One Windows Store Windows Store is your one-stop shop
Introducing the new Windows Store, a unified shopping experience across every Windows 10 device. Browse the store on your PC, tablet, or phone and easily purchase great digital content including apps, games, music, movies and TV shows. (apps sold separately, some have zero price)

7 Cortana Meet Cortana, your truly personal digital assistant
Cortana works across your day and your devices to help you get things done. By learning more over time, Cortana becomes more personal and useful to you. Cortana’s also best at reminders, delivering them at the right time and place so you forget less and can do more.

8 Things going away Upgrading will mean saying goodbye to Windows Media Center, the card game Hearts, and Windows 7's desktop gadgets. Anyone in the habit of using floppy disks on Windows will also have to install new drivers, and Microsoft warns that watching DVDs will also require "separate playback software." Microsoft manager Gabriel Aul has said on Twitter that a DVD option for Windows 10 is coming "later this year," but early upgraders can always download VLC instead.

9 Updates & Hardware Microsoft has also changed how updates will work with Windows 10. Although the Pro and Enterprise editions will both be able to defer updates, Windows 10 Home users will not have the option. Updates will instead be downloaded and installed automatically as soon as they're available. System requirements for the new OS have also been detailed, with PCs and tablets needing to pass a fairly low bar: a 1GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and a display resolution of at least 1,024 x 600 are required. These specs are a bit higher for the 64-bit version of Windows 10 but for these details and more, you can check out Microsoft's full specs page.

10 Feature Requirements In addition to the software losses, there are also a number of limitations for some of Windows 10's most exciting features. Cortana will only be available in the US, Canada, UK, China, France, Italy, Germany, and Spain at launch, while Windows Hello (which offers support for various biometric passwords) will need an infrared camera for facial recognition, or a supported fingerprint reader. The Xbox Music and Xbox Video streaming apps will also be constrained by the usual, complex web of region-based licenses.

11 Rules – Free Upgrade Windows home and small business users in general will receive a free upgrade (expires in one year). Larger companies (those who use Volume Purchase and Enterprise versions) will not be a part of this upgrade. Windows RT – there will be NO Windows 10 RT version. Older machines may not meet requirements (example: Pentium 4 will not upgrade even to Windows 8).

12 Get Windows 10 App

13 Windows Tray – update app

14 How Upgrade Works After you agree to the upgrade, once Windows 10 is available, the install file will be downloaded in the background. (Broadband Internet required – file is about 3 GB). You will be notified, and can install at your convenience.

15 How about problems? Nothing official received – they have done testing. Personally, I would be sure to make a complete system backup using a product like Acronis or Macrium Reflect so there would be a way back (I’m going to test one of my Media Center computers and try other software to replace Media Center, if not satisfactory, I will return to Windows 7 or 8.1 on those computers)

16 When Support Ends Windows XP – ended 08 April, 2014
Windows Vista – 11 April, 2017 Windows 7 – 14 January, 2020 Windows 8.0 – 18 October, 2015 Windows 8.1 – 10 January, 2023

52 Microsoft Office Office first was released as a combination of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint on 01 August, Word itself was first released in 1983 (released for Xenix version of Unix before the DOS version). The Macintosh version of Word was released in It was the first WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get – at least more or less) DOS processor, and was designed to utilize a mouse from the first (although it could also be used without mouse). At the time Word Star was the most popular word processor.

53 Microsoft Office Word for Windows was released in 1989 (Windows 3.0 came out in 1990). Microsoft Office reached a billion users by mid-2012. We will focus on more recent, including some screenshots from Windows Office 2003, 2007, 2010, 2013, and 2016 preview; Mac Office 2016 Preview, Office 365, and Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for iPhone and iPad (also available in Android versions). The operating interfaces were considerably different in older versions, but Microsoft is now designing Office so that users can change devices without re-training.
